Positive reinforcement, with a great deal if visualization technique.
I have been teaching piano and voice for almost 15 years. I started at the age of 5 taking piano lessons and the age of 12 with voice. I majored in musical performance in college, but left early to pursue a career in a Broadway Touring Company of Les Miz. From 1996-2014 I've been a professional singer and actor in many different shows and venues. I have 3 children and have been married for 10 years. I love working with people to build confidence.

In my experience as a teacher, i have taught children as young as 4 to retired adults who wanted to play for a hobby. My passion to teach music is driven by the realization that musical ability, the enjoyment, and sense of accomplishment can last a lifetime. Music in itself becomes its own reward. I am sensitive to differing learning modalities and try to use a very kinesthetic approach to teach rhythm and as a teaching strategy for the physical movements required for playing various instruments. I work hard to be an encourager and cheerleader for my students.

I believe children can learn in their own personal ways. I work with them to find their strengths/things they love, to help learning be more fun & productive. I teach through discovery (trial/error), tactile (hands-on), play, & also providing a positive approach/praise to learning. I believe all children can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate surroundings & learning experiences. I love seeing the child's face light up-catching that "ah-ha" moment (that they understand), being SO excited that they learned something new for the first time, or them being SO proud of overcoming something that was difficult to them. I grew up with both partents in the public education system, I was a student-teacher in H.S. and I earned a bachelor degree in Parks, Recreation, Natural Resource Management with a minor in Art Education. After graduation I taught Art and pre-school classes for the Springfield, MO Parks Dept. I was a librarian at the Springfield Art Museum. I worked for the Dept. of Social Services, Div. of Youth Services for 14 years and assisted the teachers with the education ciriculum. A Little Bit About Me...

As a working professional, I was driven later in life to get a degree that was started right after high school. I initially had 90 course hours towards a Social Work degree, and when I returned changed it to business. I have a BS in Business Management, and I only have one class left to get my Masters(MBA). This has allowed me to have a vast bit of working experience in math and accounting. I have exceptional grammatic skills, due to weekly submitted papers in each class. I have been a elementary substitute teacher in the past, and have trained and evaluated new pharmacy technicians for over 20 years.
