A Little Bit About Me...

Over the last 4-6 years I've had to teach coworkers the intricacies of engine technology (basic hydrocarbon breakdown and nitrogen depleting systems) to basic geometry and electrical circuits ( from creating concentric bends in pipe to large scale automated systems). I have not taught english to an 11th grader in a public school, but I make it a fact to learn everyday and spread the knowledge to whomever i come into contact with and is willing to learn. I have recently been studying and implementing hydrogen generating systems and the effects of injecting it into internal combustion engines.
I believe teaching is best learned though practical examples (especially math). because I used to say the same thing that I'm sure that kids today are saying. I graduated summa cum laude in the Honors College at Missouri State with a degree in cell and molecular biology and extensive studies in math and physics. I have been working as a private tutor in math and science for 10 years, working with students in upper elementary through college. I have been a certified teacher since 2009, and I currently teach 5th grade math.

My goal is to use a variety of methods in order to facilitate learning and retention. These methods will vary student-to-student. HOW I teach, however, remains constant for all students. Specifically, I start with the standards: what needs to be learned. Working backwards, I break the standards up into smaller concepts. Once the concepts are explained to the student, and the student understands the concepts, repetition begins in order to facilitate retention. Smaller concepts are then tied into larger ones. In the areas of chemistry or math, a variety of problems are introduced, along with a logical method for analyzing how to set each up. I have taught Special Education for the last 12 years from grades k-12. I have four years experience in High School, seven years in elementary and one year as a special education director. I have also tutored students in high school (one year), taught private kindergarter (one year) and I was director of a Day care for 2 years.
