A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching in the elementary and middle school classrooms for 13 years. I have worked as an after school tutor during many school years with 5-12 graders. In addition to the tutoring, I also directed an after school gifted and talented program where students engineered, designed, and created new inventions. I was a counselor at Camp Invention during the year 2011 which was another opportunity to engage students in learning outside of the classroom. I have been the director of Spring Break school in urban Kansas City which was an intensive tutoring program for students.

While in high school I completed two years in a practicum that put me in a classroom working one on one with students my junior and senior years. I completed my undergraduate degree in Middle School Education with an emphasis in Language Arts. I taught four years of Language Arts and Reading at a small rural school south of St. Joseph, and now I am back in school obtaining my Master's in Reading Education. I also have extensive training in working with students with dyslexia.
I have always loved teaching and working with students. My mother is a teacher of almost 30 years, so I have the importance of education ingrained in me. I am a lover of learning. I began my teaching and tutoring as a home school father. One of the goals I set for my children, and later my students, is that of understanding the idea of self-direction. Helping students grasp onto the responsibility habit has shown to be a very strong foundation in my continued teaching and tutoring.
