A Little Bit About Me...

When teaching, I not only want my students to be able to use basic formulas, but have a thorough understanding as well. I am very logical and exact in my thinking process. Since I am not good at reading minds, communication is very important. Let me know if you understand a topic or explanation. There are often a number of approaches to solving a problem which can be tried.
I am a graduate of Michigan State University and achieved a AS in applied mathematics, along with a BS in both computer science and mathematics. I was a teaching assistant at the university for three years, and assisted in the Learning center for a few more. I taught a few classes at Davenport University in Caro as well. I have tutored several math students before, and have given piano lessons to a number of students as well.

I love people's capacity for learning. It gives me joy to know that I have helped another learn something new. I am patient, relaxed, and try to keep tutoring interesting for the recipient. It's important that the tutoree is engaged and enjoys grasping new lessons. I like to guide students into understanding the problem rather than just merely giving them the answer.
In 2006 I graduated from the University of Michigan with a BS in Engineering Science. It gave me an understanding in a broad range of mathematical areas as well as areas of other sciences. During that time I worked with volunteer organizations like Salem Housing and Habitat for humanity for three years, which enabled me to mentor a variety of ages. I enjoy teaching others and helping them excel in their studies. I can relate to younger students because I have a six year old who required extensive help in the area of reading. She was one of my greatest achievements because I had to research a way to communicate on her level of understanding and yet make it interesting and fun. Now instead reading being a weakness it is a strength for her because she has excelled and developed confidence in this area too. I have also helped other children children in the community and I have volunteered on a regular basis at my daughters school helping her classmates with their work.
