More About This Tutor...

I am a former attorney, currently in work-release. The undercapitalization of my practice kept me from being able to withstand a series of family financial disasters, and I stole to make ends meet. For this, I take complete personal responsibility. I have been a good, hard worker for my entire life, and I respectfully ask for a second chance. Bonded to $10,000.00.

My comments on tutoring Reading : Currently I have several curriculums to teach reading, including phonetics.

I have seventeen years of experience teaching all subjects to all grade levels to students who qualify for the Learning Disabled, Physically & Health Impiared, Attention Deficet Disorder and ADHD programs. As an intinerant teacher I moved from elementary schools to high schools tutoring students in all subject context areas, while providing hands on individualized learning to meet the needs of the students and their disabilities when necessary. This approach provides technology, group learning and one on one learning when necessary for the students to meet their maximum capabilities in school.
My approach to teaching are always individualized to meet the needs of each student.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently attending college to receive my bachelors degree in business. I have all my pre-requisites completed to apply for the RN program. My goal is to work at Wolfson's Childrens Hospital. I love kids, and believe that education is their key to a better future. It would be a pleasure to help children to reach their learning potential. I am very patient, kind, and successful in helping children improve their grades. I graduated from Father Lopez High School with a 3.8 GPA. Currently, I have a 3.7 GPA in college. Going back to school at 48 was definitely challenging, but it proves that it is never too late. Life is all about learning, living, and passing it on. Children of today face more challenges than ever before, and it would be a blessing to help them in some small way. Their education, is the prediction of our future. As we all struggle to leave a better world ... read more

Yes We Can!

I believe in teaching the whole child, and I specialize in teaching children who are going through special challenges in their lives.
I enjoy teaching children in grades one through six in every subject. I have eight years of experience teaching children as a one on one tutor and teacher, and five years of teaching experience as an Instructor at the University of Georgia. Motivating students, and using computer software programs to engage students are essential in the learning environment. A Yale graduate, I have 12 years of experience as a social worker, two of which were while I was on active duty as a Captain in the Air Force.

My comments on tutoring Reading : English has been the subject I have taught for the last three years. As an ESL teacher, I not only have to theach all aspects of English, but I have to adapt my teaching methods to the lower understanding of my students. Since I also have to teach reading to my students, I must teach such things as letter and word recognition. I must make the printed word as understandable as the spoken word.

I extensively use music, video, flashcards and activities to make my clases fun and interesting. Discussion, and even newspaper articles can be supplemented as class materials. Classes are tailored to fit the needs and level of the student. I always keep my classes upbeat and moving forward. The proper amoount of review is mixed into the new material so everything remains fresh, not forgotten.
From 2002 through 2010 I served as an Adult leader for the BSA through which I taught subjects ranging from life skills (cooking, sewing, personal care, etc) to government (political structure, citizenship, etc.) to outdoor survival(fire making, edible plant recognition, swimming, etc.) Also, from 2004 through 2012, I served as a safety trainer and risk management trainer for two different employers. In January 2012, I decided to put my English Literature degree to use, so I began my st ... read more

Creating a solid foundation for education

As a teacher and a tutor, I have always felt that each student learns differently and that they each need to be taught based upon the most efficient method that works for each individual student. Most of my day while teaching involved working with small groups of students based upon their areas of weakness. I used a lot of hands on instruction and activities which allowed students to gain a solid foundation before moving on to more complex skills. Continual feedback was given to each student as well as constant assessment to ensure that each skill was mastered before moving on.
I have taught in Title I schools for 5 1/2 years in Kindergarten and 1st grade, and I have also worked with various tutoring companies, working with small groups of students in the areas of Reading and Math. During my tutoring experience I have worked with various age groups from ages Kindergarten to 5th ... read more

B.A. English, Minor art/music I have always been involved with people in my work experience. A lot of sales, telemarketing, home business entities in which I assisted the public. I have been an elder and served in my church. I must have people in my life in order to prosper. People can range from senior citizens to little ones - they all need inspiration, motivation, care and kindness. For the last four years, I have been helping children in Duval County as a Substitute Teacher. This has been an extra special time for me to work with the youth. They truly need mentorship. I feel so blessed when a child comes and says, "thank you for teaching us today." All the money in the world could not replace that moment. To see someone's life changed for the better is awesome.
