A Little Bit About Me...

I believe teaching is best learned though practical examples (especially math). because I used to say the same thing that I'm sure that kids today are saying. When am i ever going to use this in my daily life? Its important to let them see the applications from knowing calculus based formulas to predict market declines (algorithms), to basic math in in inventory work, to understanding complex words and their proper sentence usage so they can understand what rudimentary or neophyte means in a job interview. Also, its important to inspire. most of the children/ teens in a tutoring course have been discouraged due to the fact that they are not picking up on a subject as quickly as their peers. That why its understandable that if they have someone to look up to, as i did, in a particular course they tend to do better and go beyond what they though originally possible.

My entire background revolves around teaching. I taught in a Preschool while I was working on my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. While there I worked with all ages from Infants to the School Age children. After completing my degree I then went to teach in a public school. The first year I taught and ran the Preschool Program of about 50 children, ages 3 to 5 years. The next four years I taught third grade where our emphasis was on reading comprehension, analytical thinking skills, and writing. After leaving the public school arena I completed my MBA and then moved on to teaching adults. Lately I have been working at a local hospital instructing Physicians, Nurses, Pharmacists, and Clinic Managers on integrating their new Electronic Health Records program.

I am a very patient teacher. If it seems someone is 'just not getting it' I will try a different approach. People learn at different levels, and what works for one does not always work for another; therefore,finding the way for each individual student is the key. I have also found that most people learn a task by 'hands on' learning, not listening to how it should be done. In this situation, giving someone the tools to do the work themselves gives them the confidence to do it, and feel good about conquering the challenge.
As a working professional, I was driven later in life to get a degree that was started right after high school. A Little Bit About Me...

While pursuing my Bachelors Degree in Accounting at Missouri State University, I was a substitute teacher for grades 1-12 at two local schools. Through this experience I obtained a great understanding of various student learning styles and effective teaching methods from numerous teachers and numerous students. I then secured a position with one of the top 10 public accounting firms in the country. After obtaining my bachelors degree I advanced within that firm and then took advantage of an opportunity to obtain additional knowledge of the overall accounting process through a medium sized local firm. I am currently continuing my career while also pursuing a Masters Degree in Accountancy in addition to sitting for the CPA examination.
