A Little Bit About Me...

I studied post secondary in high school and graduated in the top ten of my class. I was on the deans list every year of my college career. I was a teachers aid at the University of Minnesota for three years in the anatomy department. I was a the lead embalmer for the University and worked for the Anatomy bequest program. I was licensed in mortuary science in 2007 and have been working as a funeral director and Retail manager for the past three years.
I believe that the purpose of tutoring is to help students help themselves, or to assist or guide them to the point at which they become an independent learner. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that people learn in different fashions. For example, I feel that some concepts may be better explained with tangible objects while other concepts are learned better when questioned and discussed. By exploring the different ways of learning we can find what works best for that individual and use that method as a tool for their understanding. I feel, in the past, that many of the peers I tutored not only obtained/recollected more information, but were more comfortable in a quiet, relaxed environment. By providing this, it sets the foundation for them to focus on the task at hand.

My approach to teaching science is to begin by applying the basic principles of biology and chemistry to everyday life. I believe it’s easier to understand these subjects when they are related to human health and current events. I also try to create an environment where students felt comfortable asking questions and open discussions are encouraged. Lastly, I am conscious not to overwhelm students with details and frequently pause to ask the student how the session is going if I feel he/she is not engaged.
