My professional experience has been divided almost equally between teaching and administrative jobs. I have approximately ten years of teaching experience including employment as an adjunct instructor in a college-level Intensive English Program, a business education teacher in a large public high school and a junior-high English teacher at a small Christian school. I also homeschooled my two older children during their 3rd/4th and 5th/6th grade years. A Little Bit About Me...

I first and foremost believe that every child can learn, and I refuse to entertain any idea that says otherwise. I have found that a constructivist approach works best for most children, and I will always try this approach first. I try to make learning as hands on and relevant to the real world as possible.
I graduated from one of the top teaching schools in the nation (according to NCATE), and have a degree in elementary and special education. I specialized in math education, but am also qualified to teach English, science, and social studies. I have worked with children as young as 2 years old and as old as 15 in a formal setting. I have always wanted to be a teacher. I began tutoring while I was still in high school. I earned my BS in Elementary Education in 1980. I have tutored students of all ages in different subjects. Most of my tutoring experience has been in math and reading. I have tutored students for all sections of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam. I have been a homebound and home-school teacher, as well as a classroom teacher.
I love to help children learn! It is so rewarding to see the reaction of a child who suddenly understands what he has been trying to learn. A Little Bit About Me...

Children are so important and shouldn't be overlooked or neglected. I have a heart for children, and that heart has grown larger now having three of my own. I believed we have to cultivate their minds with positive influences and make learning fun and interactive. While tutoring at my college, I received specialized training on identifying and adjusting to different learning styles. I use this knowledge to tailor each session to the needs of the individual student. To track progress, I like to set both short-term and long-term goals and create manageable steps toward reaching these goals. I also think it is important to teach students to establish general study skills so that they can make their own study plans for future courses.

I was educated at UAB for a degree in Political Science and English. My English and grammar skills are impecable. I also obtained an MBA from UAB though my greatest business experience was actually working as a banker for fifteen years. I have a passion for helping youth through my church and have four daughters of my own.
