I hold a Masters degree in Linguistics, and have teaching experience for students of all ages, in various settings, including as a substitute teacher in public schools, a full-time teacher of ESL at the University of Iowa, an adjunct ESL teacher at Northern Virginia Community College, and ESL/SAT tutor with a private company. Children all learn different, which is why I believe in using direct instruction in guiding their learning. Some children are more visual learns, while others may be more auditory. Varying the levels of teaching can allow for each child's needs to be met. I feel that I am able to adapt and change what I need to teach to meet those needs. I also believe scaffolding is a key component in guiding the way a child is able to learn. Along with scaffolding, providing the experiences and opportunities for a child is very important in helping them to reach their full potential.
