Florida Writes Tutoring

The Florida Writing Assessment was implemented in grades 4, 8, and 10 as required by a law passed by the 1990 legislature. Does your student need a tutor? Beginning in 2010, each essay was scored by one rater. In previous years, two raters were used and the scores were averaged. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible. Additionally, beginning in 2010, each student within the same grade level was required to write an essay using the same mode of writing (narrative, expository, or persuasive). Florida Writes can be challenging. Make a difference with a tutor today.

I enjoy teaching. I find teaching methods that will be creative so my students are encouraged to learn. All my students learn at a different level. I provide alot of hands on teaching, which helps to motivate students. Each student has a unique way of learning, they are provided, with visuals, manipulatives, verbal prompts in order to learn the lesson being taught. Each student is on a different level, which means I need to provide individual learning techniques for each student while providing special accomodations for them. I have been teaching children with special needs for about 15 years I am also an ABA therapist/ Shadow. Presently I am teaching primary grades with ESE students with Autism, LD, ADHD and Behaviors. I am a learner-centered instructor. When working with an individual I try to understand his or her learning approaches and needs. I believe that I work well with alternative learners and with young adults who may be disaffected with conventional educational methods. I particularly enjoy working with adults and feel that I often learn so much more from them than what I am able to offer. When working with adult learners I respect that their personal lives and needs may intersect with our instructional time. Frequently I will incorporate whatever is going on in their lives into our current "curriculum." Most recently I have worked as a reading specialist. I have over 25 years of experience as an English as a Second/Foreign Language educator. I have taught at all levels k-12, as well as University. I have extensive experience teaching at the adult level and enjoy working with

I go over with them what a good story needs the beginning and ending paragraph and the 3 middle ones. I have experience with differentiated instruction which has helped a lot in my tutoring business. I help my students find their unique learning style and then use that style in my lessons. For example, a couple of my students are kinesthetic (hands-on) learners so I use flashcards, coins, and other manipulatives to help them master math skills. I have Five (plus) years of professional tutoring experience specializing in English and Elementary Math. I have three years of substitute teaching experience, during which time I worked with students in grades 1-6. I also have three years of full-time classroom teaching experience, during which time I taught 3rd, 5th, and 1st grades. In the two years since I left the classroom, I have become a homeschool evaluator, test administrator, and tutor.

Many students do not plan before writing; they prefer to just start to write. For others it is important to go slowly and take the time to think about what they will write. Writing is a process and includes planning, thinking, and organizing to get a final product that is complete. Generating and organizing ideas impacts the quality of the work. Students must be able to get started and concentrate on the task as well as monitor the quality of their work. They also need to present their perspective and to think creatively. They need to decide what to write about, develop a topic, research a topic, produce original thoughts, elaborate on ideas, use prior knowledge, think critically, and apply new and learned concepts. Here is a framework you can employ to help your students stay focused, organized, and creative. Help students by having them think about the finished product before they

As I mentioned, I love to teach children and young adults. I did this at the commuinity college level, and I also did teach mathematics on the high school level for a year. I also coached sports, specifically swimming during my college summers and youth baseball. I believe in encouraging kids through positive feedback. Compassion and empathy are my two biggest traits that I integrate into my teaching style, along with the Socratic method. I feel it's important to get kids to participate and interact. Also, being patient and caring for them, showing empathy, are important because I think when they feel that, they want to learn and they perform better. At Middlebury College, I received a B.A. in Math and Economics (Joint), taking courses such as macroeconomic theory, and linear algebra. At Rutgers University, I received an MBA with a concentration in Finance. I then went on to work

Dr. Glass' experience in teaching and/or tutoring includes chemistry, environmental science, physical science, earth/space science, algebra I, geometry, FCAT math, HSCT math, and FCAT science. In 2002-'03, Dr. Glass' large high school faculty selected him as the "New Teacher of the Year." Dr. Glass is active in our community, having served as the primary adviser to a fraternity at Florida International University and as a part-time "teen court" judge. Different students work at varying levels, and I customize my teaching format to each student's unique level of interest and/or competence. When I was in high school, I was in advanced math programs. At that time, my father was taking math at the local community college. I began tutoring him in math when I was seventeen. My father’s friend who was also taking the class was blind and he needed help with his math homework. No one at the community college could help him, so I spent a few hours a day helping him with his math. When I was still in high school, I was hired by the college to tutor blind students in math. I continued to tutor math while I was in college. I have received my BA in History and French and I am applying to graduate programs for my MBA. During the last seven years, I have tutored students in math, accounting, English, French, history and science. I enjoy tutoring one-on-one or in group settings. When I tutor individual students, I take a lot of time teaching the subject and answering questions.
