A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that applications to everyday life should be stressed if a tutor/teacher is to pique the interest of their student(s). Rather than stressing rote memorization, I believe it is more important to relate overall concepts in a "partnering" style. It is important to remember that one of the cornerstones of teaching is making the subject matter interesting and relevant to the student's experiences. I believe it is also important to focus on a student's strengths rather than their weaknesses. As in many areas of life, teaching also requires patience. From my experience, children benefit greatly from an easy-going approach where they are regarded as equals and treated with the utmost respect and dignity.

I believe everyone has the chance to succeed if they are given the right opportunity. I believe everyone learns differently and therefore catering to one's individual needs is important. I myself am a visual and hands-on learner and because of this would most likely try to incorporate this in my teaching style.
I have recently returned to school to pursue my teaching license in secondary education in English. I have a passion for reading and writing and can't wait to pass on my excitement to future students. My first degree in Journalism and Mass Communication. I recently graduated cum laude (3.704 GPA) from the University of Wisconsin Green Bay earning a BA in English with an emphasis in creative writing. While attending UWGB I served as the fiction editor for The Sheepshead Review, UWGB's journal of the creative arts. My duties on staff included the critiquing of written work on a daily basis as well as copy editing.
