My comments on tutoring Social Studies : My sociology, government and history proficiencies transfer easily to Social Studies.

My teaching style, when engaged in one on one tutoring is very individualized. I used the student's personality and interests to design my teaching style. I love tutoring because I can teach to a student's interests and personality and establish a love for learning in most of my students.
Denver Summer Scholars - Lead computer tutor - Taught 3 classes a day with 15 students in each class. I used computer software to tutor students in math and language arts. My students were ESL at Risk students. Tree of Knowledge - I tutored 15 students during the 2011 to 2012 school year in Language Arts and Math. Social Studies is one of my top subjects!

Taught classes in GED in workplace to help co-workers qualify for promations; also taght GED at Skinner M.S as part of field work for teachers classes in which I received an "A"; was an AVID (advancement via individual determination) in both middle school and Hinckley H. S. for four years. AVID helps students learn to think for themselves rather than parroting answers to standardized tests -- taught all four major subjects (math, science, english, and social studies) but did especially well in english and social studies; when I was younger gave french horn lessons. Been a support group leader for people with epilepsy and have given lectures on dealing with people with hidden disabilities to the State of Colorado employees; as a parent have experience dealing with ADHD issues in grade school and teenage students

While earning my bachelor's degree, I worked in several tutoring programs assisting students with reading comprehension and writing composition skills. I taught grammar to small groups, read one-on-one with third graders and assisted junior high school students with their homework assignments. Though my degree is in fine art, I began my undergraduate career as an English major. In high school I took both AP English exams and I went on an honors trip to England to study British literature. Also as a high school senior I took sixth place at the state speech tournament with an oratory that I wrote. Even now as an aspiring children's book author/illustrator the written word still captivates me.
I believe that in order to help a student you must first be able to connect with him/her. That could mean understanding a student’s background, researching the latest video games or playing ... read more

Although I have a BS in Elementary Education, my experience ranges from preschool to high school. I have over two years’ experience teaching preschoolers basic reading and math skills. I have seven years’ experience teaching elementary school, where I have taught many children the fundamentals of reading, writing, and arithmetic. While teaching, I tutored several students that needed help with reading, each session ending with tremendous results. A Little Bit About Me...

During the last five years I have taught others how to use social media, viral marketing, search engine optimization and social media marketing more effectively. I have been recognized by peers as a leader in the emerging space of social knowledge, which embraces a holistic approach to the social interactions an organization has internally and with customers and partners.
I focus on the individual first - her style of learning, what makes her mind tick, how she responds to different methods of teaching. I believe that people are treated fairly by being treated individually. I also believe that people do not care how much you know until they know how much you care. I strive to set an example of genuine care and concern for the learner.

A Little Bit About Me...

I worked as a tutor all through college at Iowa State University. I tutored Math (up through Trig), general and organic chemistry, and statistics 101. These were the main classes I taught, but I also did Spanish 1, ecology, and food science/nutrition. I also tutored some high school students in all subjects but mostly math and science.
I love helping people. I believe that no one is stupid just some people are better in some areas than other people. I enjoy helping people learn because I love seeing the "light bulb click on above their head" when they finally grasp a concept. I try to simplify the subject (or put it in terms the student will grasp) so the student will understand it, thus my teaching method depends on how the student learns.

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience in paid teaching (excluding numerous volunteer and non-paid opportunities) range from teaching Vietnamese refugee "boat-people" children (news film footage archived by Vanderbilt University) in 1975 through years of Orange County (CA) adult education in English as a Second Language to my present duties in metro Denver of teaching immigrant adults in English as a Second Language. Along the way, I also experienced fulltime day teaching of a kindergarten class in Fresno and a combined 7th-8th grade moderate-to-severe special education class in Inglewood, California.
My teaching style could be described as modified Montessorian, in an attempt to appeal to all the senses, and to affect the learning channels of each student as a unique individual. Encouragement is lavished on even the adult students, and not all errors are equally vital to correct on an immediate basis. One ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been involved every year since 1975 in the work of an educator, mostly for pay, but occasionally as a volunteer, either community- or faith-based, in three states and two foreign countries. Leadership was usually demonstrated in teaching for proprietory institutions in curriculum development and in the processes of actual recruitment. In fifth-grade teaching of English language learners, my class for two semesters won the highest attendance record for 3rd-5th graders in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Each time I have taught a different age-level I have sought to accommodate myself to the learning style of that particular level, whether psychokinetic for kindergarten and preschool, audio-visual for lower elementary, or verbal-phonemic for upper-level students and adults. It was in the teaching of adults that I encountered my most challenging situations, and even to ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I’ve never bought into the argument that some kids just can’t do math. There is plenty of truth that some learn math much quicker and easier than others, but with a good work ethic and plenty of encouragement all kids are capable of learning these sciences. I feel the most important thing to do as a teacher is to stay positive, and try to somehow relate the math problems to real life situations. When correcting a student, it’s vital to carefully choose your words, for a harsh response will demoralize the student’s spirit and desire to learn.
As a recent CSU-Pueblo graduate with a mathematics major and a double minor in both physics and economics, I feel I have plenty of education for this position. While never having been paid by an actual tutoring service, I have helped friends and other students through challenging courses ranging from algebra to calculus and even statistics ... read more

More About This Tutor...

Having earned a master's in psychology, I have extensive knowledge in this area. I have worked on many papers and reports throughout my college years, so I have strong proofreading and grammar skills. I tutored in my high school in many different subject areas and currently help some of my clients with their schoolwork.
I enjoy working with youth to help them achieve success in many aspects of their lives. The one-on-one attention may be all a child needs to move forward when he/she is struggling in the classroom. I am a patient, detailed, and organized person. I have a great work ethic and strive to show youth that success can be achieved in many different forms. Finding the right motivator and "language" can make all of the difference in a confusing subject.

A Little Bit About Me...

I like the students to learn how to learn. While I will guide them, test them and occasionally point them toward appropriate reference materials, I do not do the work for them....that's their job and the only way they will develop the appropriate learning skills, self-confidence and a thirst for knowledge.
In the past,I've taught ESL, Health-care Occupations & Opportunities, both MRI/CT Applications. I also worked for AOL as an on-line teacher/tutor/mentor in their Academic Assistance Center.I hold two cleared teaching credentials one for Vocational Ed.and the other for Adult Ed. Currently,I'm working as a substitute teacher in Weld County, a grandparent mentor in Larimer County, as well as a part-time instructor at ELTC teaching courses in Medical Terminology and Phlebotomy.

Using a variety of teaching strategies, I engage students with all learning styles including using music, creative writing, visual arts, interpersonal interactions, quiet reading, and exploratory activities. My experience with young learners has taught me that all students appreciate authentic learning situations, in which they can use all of their senses to experience a subject. Furthermore, I believe and have seen that all students can learn, though at differing rates. I am patient with all students, and try to demonstrate to them my own love of learning, as well as my consideration of each of them as unique and special individuals.

My teaching style is to follow a lesson plan and to stick to it for the whole year. My teaching has been more of the variety of tutoring students and helping them with their lesson plans. I enjoy working with children of all ages and have a way of relating to them and getting the most of them and getting them to achieve their potential.
As a Black African American I am driven to see that there are more diversity in the accounting and education field. Right now the number of minority students that are actively seeking degrees in this field are limited and I would like to be a positve influence in the field to get more students in the minority race to get involved. I have earned a degree with my BS in Business Administration Economics
