I have worked with children from pre-k through 6th grade. I am a full time student at UTSA, so I believe these challenging classes will help me be able to help you get a clear understanding. I have tutored many students when I was in high school. I have also taught young children for the past four years.
My approach to teaching will be using real life problems. I believe that if you can understand the problem in a real life situations then you can apply it. Depending on the age I will make sure and teach on that level. I will plan lessons before meeting, so I can have the best understand of the subject. It is my goal to teach and see others learn.

My comments on tutoring Reading : Skillful.

I am a very experienced teacher of English as a Second Language (ESL). I served for three years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Afghanistan and the Fiji Islands. I also taught ESL in Japan, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. I have also taught ESL for many years here in the USA to both adults and children. I have experience with many foreign cultures.
I like a conversational, relaxed style in which the students are encouraged to speak English as much as possible. I often have students repeating useful, whole sentences and phrases.Mistakes are okay! Humor is okay! Questions are encouraged.

I tend to be really flexible and try to adapt my teaching style to the learning style of the student. For students who tend to be more tactile, I might have them handle apples if a math problem references apples. If a student is working on a writing assignment, I will offer suggestions (such as marking spelling/grammar/punction mistakes) and help them learn how to correct the errors so they won't continue to make the same errors in the future.

After graduating from college, I began my teaching career in middle school using Abeka curriculum for two years, and then stayed home after having my first child. For the next 16 years I remained at home raising four children, nurturing, educating and home schooling them at times. In 1998, I returned to the classroom and taught 5th grade until 2006, again using the Abeka curriculum each year.
