As a Big Ten graduate from Penn State University, I was very much driven to push myself in a wide variety of subjects to achieve a well-rounded education. But I also earned my Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from National University in La Jolla, Calif. My undergrad degree in Film and Video/Communications. I've also spent time in the US Air Force where I received training in newspaper writing and photography. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been researching the Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets because I plan on using them as a base for the children that I work with at Community Action Duluth through the Circles of Support program. I believe that teaching children academic skills while building assets within them is necessary for a healthy community. I teach around the 4MAT cycle so I am sure to accommodate all learning styles in my students.

I am currently a medical student at the University of Minnesota Medical School Duluth. Before I started medical school I worked as a tutor for six years with two teenage boys with autism. Under the six years of my tutoring, both of these "disabled" kids were completely mainstreamed and even taking some AP and challenge classes. I believe that any kid can learn if they are taught in a way that is fun and structured. I tutored these kids in Math, Science, Social Studies and English. I also spent a semester as a Teaching Assistant in an upper level Philosophy course during my undergrad. Most of my TA tutoring was helping college students write papers.

I am three semesters away from completing two degrees, BS Biochemistry and Molecular Biology as well as BS Chemistry, at the University of Minnesota Duluth.
