A Little Bit About Me...

For the past 18 years, I have held various instructor positions in both the Active and Reserve components of the Army, providing instruction in such areas as Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, Surgical Technique, Emergency Medicine, Combat Lifesaver and Sterile Processing. My extensive work in medicine as a surgical first assistant and instructor gave me a unique insight into the inner workings of the human body, in both the civilian as well as the military sectors. It has given me wonderful opportunities to work with all different types of students in a broad spectrum of areas such as science, communication and public speaking, leadership roles, English, beginner Spanish (high school and college level), and writing (APA and other styles.)

I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Physical Science from California State University, Fresno. I received my first teaching experience as a substitute teacher. I next worked as a long-term substitute teacher for a year. I was then offered a full-time, permanent teaching position as a fourth grade elementary school teacher. This position lasted three years. I will never forget the joy I received each time one of my students learned something that they had been struggling with for some time. Because of my work with persons who have physical and mental problems, I have learned to be patient and sharpen my listening skills. This way I am also able to recognize when someone is frustrated or exhausted and use these signs to better cope with any behavioral problems that may arise.
