A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout my education, I have come to learn and adapt to many different types of learners. I understand that students many require alternative teaching methods to accommodate to their personal needs and I enjoy the challenge. Personally, I am a visual learner, however I always make my best attempt to address auditory and tactile learners. My approach to teaching is more of a "why" approach. It is more important for students to know why something is or works rather than just how. This approach works well for middle and high school students. It allows students not only to understand the ideas taught but to apply them to other areas as well. I also like to use visual aids as well as conversation. I have found that many of us vary widely in learning styles. Some are visual learners, others are audio learners, and still others are a combination. I work well one-on-one but also enjoy small groups. I am a graduate from the Marshall University School of Education. I earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education which has enabled me to learn a lot about Elementary curriculum as well as the skills and strategies used to teach elementary children. I am an upcoming May 2006 graduate from Allegheny College, majoring in English. Given my background at a small, liberal arts college and being a former biochemistry major, I have a great understanding of language arts, math and science. I’m a graduate from the University of Pittsburgh (2009) with a B.S. in Business Administration. After graduation, I realized my true calling while working at my YMCA in our Child Development Center. My title was an office coordinator position, but I took further responsibilities to help out our teachers in our preschool and toddler classrooms.
