Calculus I is one of my top subjects! I just received an A at Ball State University's calculus course which is the highest letter grade one can earn.

I like to teach as if I am one friend talking to another. I find that this is the most relaxed way to encourage learning. While a relaxed atmosphere is important, my parents (both elementary and high school teachers) showed me the importance of completing objectives. I will push you, my friend, to learn as much as possible - and retain that information - during our time together.
I am in my third year at Ball State University. I recently changed my major from Biology to Accounting; therefore, I have lots of knowledge in many different areas - some that aren't listed on my profile. I am experienced in categories ranging from Biology to Accounting to baking. I won several Grand Champion awards in Indiana's Madison County 4-H program for Baking and Woodworking while I have A's in Chemistry, Accounting, Biology, Spanish, Calculus, and many many other subjects from Ball State Univer ... read more

My comments on tutoring Calculus I : basic calculus as limits, differential equations,Integration e.t.c

My teaching methodolgy is through written assignments, problems solving and through presentations.Any other methodolgy if any students want,I will do my best effort to do that accordingly.
I have extensive experience in Civil Engineering as well as basic sciences. My core strength includes continusly varying developments until goals are achieved.Teaching is my passion and I m keen to deliver in depth concepts in sciences to students.I believe that students should feel free to discuss their problems and new ideas to their teacher as it provides growth in their success.Their should never be any gap between students and teacher.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have two years tutoring experience. In college, I tutored college students who struggled with math (algebra, trigonometry, calculus, etc). Other experience I have is derived from having taken and successfully passed (A) those courses I can tutor. I also help and tutor students who would like to learn how to play piano by ear, chords (major, minor, diminished, augmented), hear a song and determine chords, accompanying a singer, etc. I have experience in playing piano by ear for churches from almost 2 years. I occasionally play piano/keyboard in a band setting.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching philosophy has developed through my experiences as a high school physics teacher, as a teaching assistant in the Department of Physics at Texas Tech University, and through tutoring individual students. In my experience, high level of student participation is important. First, it allows students to at least start thinking towards a problem in their own way, and later start debating over what they have learned in the classroom. I try to encourage the class by carefully organizing my lectures. With a clear organization, students are more likely to believe they understand the framework of the class and therefore will be willing to ask questions about the sections they may not understand. A second technique which I believe provided usefulness is carefully planned homework assignments which lean more toward conceptual understanding than filling in numbers within a formula. A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Purdue University with a Civil Engineering degree in 2003. This degree required an extensive amount of Math and Science course work. I am currently employed in the consulting industry. My job requires me to do a lot of Public Education and Outreach- to make Engineering and complicated environmental issues understandable to the general public. I thouroughly enjoy this and love to make learning fun, interesting, and relatable to real world topics. I have experience tutoring for School on Wheels working with k-12 students on a variety of course work. I also tutored my little sister thorughout junior high and high school. She always tells me I was the only teacher that was patient enough to make math and science make sense to her. I never thought twice-I just truly want people to find learning math and science fun and interesting.

I am a strong believer in teaching through examples and letting students try to apply the knowledge I have taught them at various smaller stages, then apply it to the bigger picture. I love working with kids, and I think that with patience, understanding, and time, all students are capable of reaching their potential.
As an undergraduate, I attended Purdue University and worked as a teaching assistant where I ran my own lab, instructing students for one of their core management courses. In my junior year, I was asked to apply to an invitation-only program for an an accelerated MBA program only for exceptional students. I am now entering my final year of this program and will graduate in 2011 with a BS in Business Management and a Masters degree in Business Administration. The graduate program is team focused and emphasizes working with and teaching diverse groups of people.

"Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he eats for a lifetime." This quote is the backbone of my teaching. It is what I live for each day. I think that I do a good job presenting information and ideas in multiple ways to reach learners on a variety of levels. I differentiate my instruction by coming up with activities to get students out of the typical paper-pencil work, and relate the work to real-life activities. When I do that, the students have more fun and the material is meaningful to them. Therefore, they retain the information better. I believe in giving kids structure so that they will know what I expect from them, and in turn, they will know what they can expect from me.

My teaching style is my tutoring style as I do mostly tutoring. I work with students to determine the missing math procedures or concepts. When a student misses a question, I do not simply show them the solution or correct answer. I solve the problem with the student (without looking at the answer) by discussing the approach (procedure) together. In this way, we share the approach to the solution and weak spots are revealed.
I have had a very successful career as an Engineer/Plant Manager. I changed careers and I am now Teaching/Tutoring. I teach/tutor High School math at an inter-city school (IPS). I also work for a Huntington Learning Center working with high-achieving high school students trying to improve their SAT and ACT math scores.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a very strong passion towards teaching. While many teachers tend to go towards adminstration afters 10 years of teaching, I have no desire to go that route. I want to remain teaching in this subject area because I find joy in math, and I want to help students find joy in math as well. I hope that my enthusiasm spills over into the classroom easily for my students, which is my strongest characteristic. I use a very traditional style of teaching math, however I like to use ways to help students remember processes in an easier manner.
I taught one year at Zionsville Community High School, where I taught Algebra I, Prealgebra, and Basic Math. I currently teach at Tri-Central High School, where I have been for nine years. I recently graduated Ph.D. in Chemistry from one of the best chemistry programs in the country this past May. I had been a graduate student at Arizona State University for the past 5 years and I have essentially put myself through 9 years of college through dedication, hard work, and an undergraduate scholarship. I graduated 20th out of 456 students at Hamilton Southeastern High School and was awarded a full tuition alumni scholarship at Indiana State University. During the course of my undergraduate work, I developed a love for chemistry. I have had experience tutoring and teaching students in chemistry since 2004 and have loved every minute of it.

Hands on, real world examples are the most effective when learning mathematics. It is very important to understand the theory behind what is calculated, in order to understand what is being done. Working lot of examples, from different points of view, and finding easy ways to sanity check your answers is also important.
My ultimate professional goal is to become a statistics teacher at the university level. I am currently working on my MS in Applied Statistics with a SAS certification at Texas A&M, and plan to continue onto a phD. I have always loved mathematics, but never thought I would end up being a teacher. I initially used my strong analytical skills in the business world. As I continued to work with young people through my church and professional jobs lead me to human relations positions, I yearned to combine this talent in relating to young people to my passion for math. I completed a career transition four years ago and it has been everything that I expected. I especially enjoy one-on-one tutoring because it allows me to ensure that the student has completely grasped the concepts before moving on. My specialty is AP Calculus and PreCalculus/Trig. In three years time, I have improved the pass rate on AP Calculus exams from 0% to 50%.
I am a strong believer in student-directed learning. While I am happy to explain concepts and answer specific questions, many students merely ask “Can you show me ... read more
