Calculus I is one of my top subjects! I just received an A at Ball State University's calculus course which is the highest letter grade one can earn.

I like to teach as if I am one friend talking to another. I find that this is the most relaxed way to encourage learning. While a relaxed atmosphere is important, my parents (both elementary and high school teachers) showed me the importance of completing objectives. My teaching philosophy has developed through my experiences as a high school physics teacher, as a teaching assistant in the Department of Physics at Texas Tech University, and through tutoring individual students. In my experience, high level of student participation is important. First, it allows students to at least start thinking towards a problem in their own way, and later start debating over what they have learned in the classroom. I try to encourage the class by carefully organizing my lectures. With a clear organization, students are more likely to believe they understand the framework of the class and therefore will be willing to ask questions about the sections they may not understand. I graduated from Purdue University with a Civil Engineering degree in 2003. This degree required an extensive amount of Math and Science course work. I am currently employed in the consulting industry. My job requires me to do a lot of Public Education and Outreach- to make Engineering and complicated environmental issues understandable to the general public. My teaching style is my tutoring style as I do mostly tutoring. I work with students to determine the missing math procedures or concepts. When a student misses a question, I do not simply show them the solution or correct answer. I solve the problem with the student (without looking at the answer) by discussing the approach (procedure) together. In this way, we share the approach to the solution and weak spots are revealed.
I have had a very successful career as an Engineer/Plant Manager. I changed careers and I am now Teaching/Tutoring. I teach/tutor High School math at an inter-city school (IPS). I have a very strong passion towards teaching. While many teachers tend to go towards adminstration afters 10 years of teaching, I have no desire to go that route.
