I have been working with children my whole school career from a Kinder Helper in fifth grade, a PAL (Peer Assistant Leader) in high school, and to a synchronized swimming coach today. I find history incredibly interesting and want to help others feel the same way about it. It is a story that needs to be shared. I took AP history classes in high school. I am about to walk the stage at the University of the Incarnate Word holding a B.A in History with honors, also with a minor in Psychology. On top of studying basic US History and World History, I have also studied a great range of topics in history including: Victorian Era to Modern America, Consumer Culture, Industrial and Innovative America, History of Afghanistan, and the History of Russia. I also did an Internship at Ft. Sam Houston over World War One. My future plans are to teach through being a museum docent or curator.

UT-SAN ANTONIO STUDENT WITH DIVERSE SKILL SET

BA Criminal Justice (University of Texas San Antonio '93), 11 years experience as a paralegal BA English Pending (UTSA, anticipated date of graduation Spring 2012) President, Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society - Beta Omega Chapter Member Association of Writers & Writing Professionals (AWP) Award Winning Author Presenter of Scholarly Papers
I tend to be really flexible and try to adapt my teaching style to the learning style of the student. For students who tend to be more tactile, I might have them handle apples if a math problem references apples. If a student is working on a writing assignment, I will offer suggestions (such as marking spelling/grammar/punction mistakes) and help them learn how to correct the errors so they won't continue to make the same errors in the future.

Working with kids is my fascination. I believe that teaching children should not be standing up and lecturing or simply explaining something. Its about getting to know the students, making the students feel important and unique in their own special way and most importantly I believe a teacher should be a role model. The teacher must adjust his or her teaching approach to the way the student will learn what’s being taught to them not the other way around. Everything should be done in the interest of the children and their academic success. All students are different and they all have different learning styles. It is the teacher’s duty to find out what leaning style the student holds and target that teaching approach.

I love working with children and youth. I believe all students can learn, but each are individuals with different capabilities. I believe as a teacher, it is my job to help your child learn to their best of their ability. I do this through assessing your child's learning style and providing lessons tailored to your child's needs. Learning should be fun, and I incorporate learning games and prizes to inspire students to learn. I am patient and understanding. I have children whom were special education students which helps me in understanding their needs. I believe the teacher's right attitude and preparation is the key to education, and I try to make a difference in each child's education.
