French is one of my top subjects! I am currently in the process of going back to school to get certified to teach French. I have passed the Praxis 2 exam and in addition I lived in Paris, France for three years where I learned local colloquialisms and understand cultural aspects of Francophone life and culture.

I am a very-hands on teacher. I think the approach to teaching most any subject is making it "real" for students. Talking about the impact of a historical event, having daily conversations in a foreign language, and keeping a journal are all examples of exercises that I would use to help students who are struggling.
I have worked with the French public schools teaching English to non-English-speaking French students. This was a joined effort between my universities and the public school system. In addition I have worked for various families as a nanny, where it has often been my responsibility to teach their children the English language.

A Little Bit About Me...

I would characterize my teaching style as relationally oriented. I want the student to know that I care about him or her. I may not articulate as much, but I want the student to see that I am giving my time to serve their needs and not my own. Loosely speaking, I am also a proponent of multiple intelligences. The creative teacher can usually identify a way to relate material and content using a methodology that connects. My teaching style is based in facts. I philosophically reject radical post-modernity which posits that truth is a moving target. The student does not have the right to tell me that 1+1 = 3 because 1+1 = 2. I worked at LearningRX as a cognitive skills trainer where I worked with students who were having difficulty in school and I was able to find their areas of difficulty and help build those areas up while also helping with their memory, visual acuity, and processing speed.
I like to have a relationship with the students I tutored where they feel comfortable with me; I want them to be able to tell me the problems they're having with the work and what I can do to help.
