I taught 1st Grade Gifted and Talented for 4 years in Baytown, Texas as a self-contained classroom teacher. I was the Team Lead teacher the last two years. All 4 of those years, I also tutored several students in reading. I am also currently pursuing my Master's of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a Literacy Emphasis from The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). I am in my practicum class now, have two classes over the summer and my Master's Degree will be completed. After receiving my Master's Degree, I will pursue a Master Reading Teacher Certification as well as a Reading Specialist Certification. Learning is serious, but that doesn't mean it has to be grim

I encourage higher order thinking, and help students learn to become self-directed and independent. Not only will your child develop greater skills and knowledge in each discipline, he/she will develop many specific thinking strategies and skills which they will apply in the classroom and throughout life. My mottos is, "Learning is serious, but that doesn't mean it has to be grim." I believe in making learning exciting, and especially in helping children learn to believe in themselves as successful learners.
