A Little Bit About Me...

Although I had a family and worked full time I decided to go back to school and get my advanced degree from Johns Hopkins University. It was a great school and I felt a wonderful sense of accomplishment by obtaining my degree. While obtaining a BA degree from Johns Hopkins University, I was inducted into the honor society Alpha Sigma Lambda, and president from 2000-2002. During that time I tutored adults with problems in basic math skills, reading and writing. Although I did not obtain a teaching certificate - I began my master's degree in Education from Johns Hopkins University in Adult Learning. I moved out of the area before I could finish the degree. I have taught a few weapons classes and use of force classes as a security forces member in the Air Force. However, I have never taught classes on a regular basis.
As a supervisor and trainer in the military, it was my responsibility to train the new individuals that came into the job. There was a lot of studying material that I constantly had to sit down and go over with them. We made flashcards, took notes, made up quizzes, did verbal question and answers, etc. I actually used to tutor math in High School when I was in an advanced Calculus class and have helped many friends with their college math. As a grad student, I am writing lots of essays which has really helped me with my English skills. I have a lot of academic experience that I would love to utilize while tutoring.

A Little Bit About Me...

As an undergraduate, a professor in the Psychology department recruited me to be a teaching assistant in Statistics after she found me freely tutoring my classmates in the lobby (I'd also earned an A grade in her course). I was just a sophomore at the time, and was able to hone my tutoring skills over the next two years in both Statistics and Psychology. In 2006 I received the Sibley English Composition prize from my school, and I have a passion for writing in addition to the subjects mentioned above. Education is a large part of who I am. I have earned two Bachelor degrees, BS in Human Development and Family Studies as well as a BA in Sociology. I initially worked in the field of social work upon graduation which gave me great insight into family life, sociological influences, and the impact of socio-economic factors on education.
