REAL LEARNING IS FUN, RISKY, DANGEROUS...BUT NEVER BORING :)

My experience spans both the ivory tower and the world of business and industry. I have observed that "TEACHING" is often associated with the ideas of "PRESENTATION" and "ACADEMIC ENTERTAINMENT". Honestly, for many students it is comforting, soothing, and safe to sit in a chair and listen to an "ADULT" sing to them in the language of Calculus, Organic Chemistry, Java, etc. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT APPROACH. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is primarily includes me working right along side the student at all times. I like to provide real world examples whenever possible, and firmly believe in using those examples to help the student understand the bigger picture of what they are learning. In other words, I don’t want to simply teach the student how to do the lesson but also why. I want them to understand the ultimate goal of what they are learning and the underlying reason as I believe this facilitates long-term retention of the material.

I am very adaptive to students learning style. I usually spend the first ten minutes of our first meeting figuring out what the student is struggling with and how to best meet their needs. I try to teach students more how to think analytical more so then just solving problems because it is more beneficial to the student. I feel that if I can teach the student how to read theorems, understand concepts, then problems just become easy at that point.
I started tutoring part time in 2004 and have continued this throughout college. I worked as a math tutor for tulsa community college part time during the summer. I have earned over 190 hours of college credit, I have two degrees, and I am only 15 hours away from a chemical engineering degree.

When teaching classes I like to provide a balance between oral, visual and hands-on teach techniques as studies show people learn in one or more of these three approaches. In my classes I try to provide exercises that touch on the core components of the lesson along with the theory and skills needed to succeed. I attended a preparatory school in Junior High and High School. I then went on to Mississippi College where I obtained a Bachelor degree in Home Economics with an emphysis on Fashion Merchandising. When I became a mom, I decided to home school my kids so that I could take an active part in their education and I could guide them in ways that someone else might not find interesting or important.
