A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is based on building an empowering relationship between teacher and student. The aim in my teaching is to make the student into an out-going self-learner and to teach the student positive ways of challenging himself. If I were to label myself, I would call myself a patient, understanding teacher. I look for tools and ways to reach my student, often employing numerous aids for a single subject. My philosophy is that each student should be presented with the best opportunities for learning. I believe that each child is a unique individual with specific needs and learning styles such as visual, audio, kinetic or through reading and writing. I am known for "thinking outside the box" and draw upon any and all resources that might help a child learn better. I am patient, encouraging, and use methods that empower a child in the learning environment.
I have worked with children since 1991. My concentration during my undergraduate studies was neuroendocrinology. I believe that once a student can enjoy the process of learning they can begin to internalize the good study habits required for academic success. I use a constructivist teaching method and often use Socratic teaching as a means to have students thinking independently about their work. I am also interested in learning how each student learns so as to get the best results. I believe I'm a natural teacher, enthusiastic, intelligent, and an unusual memory for detail. I enjoy creating interesting contexts for students to learn from, and the intuition to know when a student is making progress.
