My comments on tutoring Special Education : I worked all through high school with special needs children. And also in my adult working life had had to job train and teach on computer those with special needs.

Hands on approaches mixed with worldly knowledge, and a very patient style.
Experience throughout school, work and personal experience dealing with the mentally challenged and dyslexia. my best friend had a son who was dyslexic and also he had ADD and I got him to trust me in babysitting and I taught him various things. I taught him how to read and write he could not accomplish that on his own. He was 11 at the time and I think with kids you have to be creative to teach them and I am very creative. I also have an aunt who is mentally handicapped, and I love spending time with her she is a very giving person. They teach me and it is always a joy to work with them and give something back.

I use the Orton- Gilingham multi sensory approach.

I Have worked for the Davis County School district for 12 years. The last few years I have been working intervention for students who are not performing at grade level. I have learned that not all kids can learn the way they are taught in school. My 8 year old is dyslexic. I Have studied the Orton-Gilingham multisensory approach to reading and spelling. I have also learned to engage children in activities that are fun and creative. I will not be doing the same teaching style as there school.
ORTON-Gilingham multi sensory approach. Math without words until the concept is mastered. Using lots of manipulatives including video games, that teach concepts.

As I finish a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership with an emphasis in training and development, I realize that I want to continue my formal educational while sharing my love of learning. My prior formal education includes a double bachelor in Honors Comparative Literature and Honors French earned with University Honors. My teaching and tutoring experience began in high school where I was a teaching assistant for the elementary special education classes. In college I was a teaching assistant for the honors department, taught English in Russia and Belgium and tutored friends in French. After college, I found myself “teaching” adults. As a national management trainee for Sears, I facilitated employee career development seminars. I trained military personnel internationally on software, have presented several classes to community organizations and, more formally, substituted fo ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a Master of Arts degree in English from Utah State University and have taught EFL overseas and within the US. Recently (from 07-08), I worked as a Math Tutor for challenged fifth graders and also for Kindergarteners part-time at Lincoln Elementary in Layton while my son was in pre-school. I am competent in elementary math and sincerely enjoy helping others to find the inherent beauty of numbers and what they can do.
I love kids - they are often sweet, funny, easily impressed and are a great audience. I know that it is possible to make learning fun through a close, interactive relationship with a student - showing and guiding them through your own discovery of the subject. There have been times when I could feel one of my students learning; it is always a smile-provoking moment and I treasure every one.

I recently finished a double-major in college and maintained a GPA of 3.75. I took many education courses throughout my college career in obtaining my degree in Childrens' Studies. I have helped tutor in biology, earth science, social studies, English, algebra, reading, and Spanish.
I absolutely love working with kids and teens. I believe that all children want to experience success, but each might define "success" a little bit differently. I am willing to take the time to find out what motivates each individual student and go the extra mile to help them. I am a firm believer in experiential education and try to relate what a student is learning in class to something they love, engaging and involving them in the process as much as possible. As a tutor, I do my best to make things fun while also making progress.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am very passionate about seeing someone suddenly gain understanding about a specific concept. I strive to understand first the learning style of any student and create new ways to connect to them via that learning style. I emphasize communication and understanding questions and doubts of the student to maximize learning and retention, and I make learning fun and relevant. I am very patient and easy to relate to, and I try to be a friend before anything else; I am a tutor, they already have a teacher, and I specialize in supplementing what they know with what they need in addition. My goal is to help each student not only master their current assignments, but learn key concepts that will change their lives.

I have been a photographer and receptionist for Bell Photography for 8 years now. And during this time spent at schools all along the Wasatch front, I am amazed at how many children have problems when they come to our lines. My formal education is High School. But I have done many other jobs including having our own business for 30 years, and the most important one.... being a Mother for 22 years. I now have my oldest two daughters out of High School and a son to graduate in May.
I know that there are so many children that are just plain scared. They see so many children that have more then they do, and they come from all different situations, and backgrounds, that I think they feel doomed. I see so many children that I think really dont even receive the love they need at home. I think they need to feel loved and have their self esteem built. To be given some one on one time instea ... read more

I love teaching. Currently I am working with adults in debt management and financial counseling. Money management is critical to the survival of a family and easily sabotaged by impulse spending. I most enjoy one-on-one situations. I have good people skills and have worked with children and adults from many cultures and walks of life.
I was first introduced to accounting by owning my own business. Then I was hired by an engineering company to update their bookkeeping method from paper to computer. I became proficient in troubleshooting discrepancies and providing users with solutions. I interfaced with Federal and State taxing agencies, banks, and lending institutions requiring reports and/or payments. I then moved on to a Software Development company as a Product Manager of accounting software being developed for internet use by accountants. I trained and answered questions, ... read more

I enjoy the challenge of teaching, I love enriching the lives of both children and adults. My experience has taught me that each person learns in his own way. I am patient, understanding and willing to implement a varity of approaches to learning to find how your child learns to provide the best opportunity for academic success. It is my goal to open up the world for the student so that they not only understand the “how?” to learning but the "Why?" And the way learning a subject can enrich their lives regardless of their cultural background, nationality or belief system.
