SAT - Math is one of my top subjects!

I spent two years volunteering as a tutor at local elementary schools, working with students to succeed in math, reading, social studies, spelling, etc. In 2011, I was hired as a private tutor in Latin, and the student's test scores increased from a 70% average to a 94% average over two weeks. I was a straight-A student in high school, scored 2340 on the SAT (740 CR, 800 M, 800 W), and 36 on the ACT.

A Little Bit About Me...

My approach to teaching is more of a "why" approach. It is more important for students to know why something is or works rather than just how. This approach works well for middle and high school students. It allows students not only to understand the ideas taught but to apply them to other areas as well. I also like to use visual aids as well as conversation. I have found that many of us vary widely in learning styles. Some are visual learners, others are audio learners, and still others are a combination. I work well one-on-one but also enjoy small groups. Go over the basics and then assisted practice to see short comings in understanding. Address the shortcomings and make sure the student understands thorough further practice. Every student is different, I will try and work with each student to see what style works best.
