My comments on tutoring Composition : I enjoy writing, its process, & the vocabulary that goes into it. I feel competent helping others with their writing without imposing my writing style on them. I especially like teaching composition because it incorporates all aspects of language arts, which are near and dear to my heart.

I consider myself a facilitator of knowledge, encouraging my students to discover answers for themselves. To me, the process of acquiring knowledge is as important as the knowledge itself. With gentle prodding, building on what students already know, they progress quickly through problems and/or assignments. Students know much more than they think they know. Because they are doing their own thinking, they're already invested in the process. When their answers come, they own them. This increases their confidence in tackling more challenging work & in realizing their own potential. The knowledge is out there, waiting to be discovered. It is this discovery that makes teaching and learning so rewarding.

Expereinced SAT / ACT/ GRE tutor with perfect scores

My tutoring experience has mainly focused on SAT / ACT prep and ESL (TOEFL). I have also been a high school / middle school teacher in social studies / history / humanities for the past 4 years. I'm now working on my Masters at UH-Manoa. The best successes come after their greatest disappointments

I have experience with pre k to 8th grade tutoring in Math and English tutoring to help students prepare for Iolani and Punahou entrance exams through Dr. Takahashi Juku. I have also worked extensively with children from Japan who struggle with English. I can explain English words and grammar in Japanese and well as read and write Japanese .

I am an informal teacher because I do not yet have the experience teaching in a formal setting accept for writing lesson plans for language arts. Otherwise, I am looking forward to working with adults and children on their studies because they need the help.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a graduate from the University of Denver with a degree in Biology and French, as well as a minor in Chemistry.
