Teaching needs to adjust with each student or class, because everyone has their own flavor for learning. I tend to let the student take the lead at first, and then I try to guide them through the areas they're questioning. It's like a car on a road with a new driver: the student is driving all over the road, and I need to gently urge them into the right lane (or the correct answer). I also like to use real world examples when I can from my past experience, and encourage the student to do so as well.
When I first started college, I had no idea what to major in. I started taking creative writing and literature classes though, and found my niche in English. Throughout my studies at a liberal arts College I gained a great diversity of knowledge and skills in many different subject areas. During my second year as a Religious Studies major, I began tutoring both native and ESL college students in Philosophy, theology, and a number of upper-level religious studies courses, many of which were writing-intensive.
