A Little Bit About Me...

I recently graduated with my Master's degree in Social Welfare from the University of California at Berkeley, and earned my first graduate degree in 1997 at the University of California at Los Angeles in Education. I taught 2nd grade in a bilingual Spanish classroom from 1996 to 2000 for the Los Angeles Unified School District. I also taught English to high school students for the Peace Corps in Nicaragua. I have studied foreign languages and speak Spanish and Portuguese fluently, and also speak some French and Japanese. Due to my past education, work experience, and time spent abroad, I am comfortable tutoring language arts, the social sciences, basic math, reading, Spanish, Portuguese, and French.

I have worked as a teacher on the Big Island, and spent over ten years as a volunteer trainer at public access television facilities in New York and Texas. I am currently seeking tutoring work as I complete the last year of my online "masters in elementary education" program. I have a bachelors in Psychology, and twenty years of working experience, 5 in supervisory positions. I can teach elementary and high school level work. After graduate school in the summer of 2003, I taught art at the Pathfinder Ranch in Idyllwild, CA for ten hours a day for three months with a very limited budget. From 2003-2004, I taught on-line students and acted as an academic enrollment counselor for high school students and their parents at Laurel Springs School, a home school in Ojai, CA. In 2005, I lectured and taught a yearlong AP Art History at Thacher, a well known, highly respected boarding school in Ojai, CA. Finally in 2006 I was an AmeriCorps Literacy tutor working with students at Canalino School in Carpinteria, CA, run through the Santa Barbara County Education Office.
