I prefer to approach every student very slowly in the beginning to understand exactly where their trouble are. Listening is the most important attribute that a tutor can have followed by patience. It's my job to identify where the student's problem are and address those problems. My experience has tought me that most people just need a new perspective to understand certain materials at hand. Providing applications for someone learning new concepts is key for their development because the student understands how the concepts they're learning applies in the real world. I started tutoring when I was a college student. Upon my entrance to the SDSU Department of Chemistry, I was granted an opportunity to teach as a TA in Chemistry. I had been teaching for 4 years before I received my master's degree in December of 2007. In these 4 years, I always had good evaluations from students. As a result of my hard work, the SDSU Residential Education Office decided to hire me as a contracted tutor in the dormitory area in 2007. I have worked with small children to adults, teaching English and school subjects. I work best with pre-teens- adults, however have no problem teaching small children. Tutoring is important for me because many times during my educational career I have needed tutoring myself, in regards to language barriers.
During high school I attended a special program, Health and Medical Occupations Academy, developed for students who wanted a career in the medial field. My high school classes were oriented towards the medical profession. In addition I was required to take anatomy/ physiology, biology, and several nursing classes. I am currently a 2 year medical student. Before entering medical school I worked voluntarily for an orphanage in Mexico. During my time at the orphanage (about 4 years) I participated in tutoring the children, of all ages, with school work and English.
