I believe that a big part of teaching is listening and observing. Not every student learns the same way, so it is important to be patient and try to understand what works best for the student. In many cases, examples are helpful in learning. Examples that are tailored to a specific student (e.g. drawing correlations to cooking for measurements, or sports for averages) can be a great basis for understanding concepts. I have done classroom teaching and one-on-one teaching. I prefer the one-on-one approach because it is so effective, and so satisfying for myself and the student when progress is made.

After I got my BA and Illinois secondary school certification, I pursued my MFA in Playwriting at the University of Utah. I forged a career as a writer and journalist. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is modeled after the Princeton Method, which is the way that I was taught to teach tennis. The Princeton method focuses on the positive. So instead of saying "don't skip the hesitation for a period mark", I would say "remember to hesitate in between sentences".
I started teaching tennis to juniors at the age of 16. I enjoyed that very much. For close to 10 years I taught at a country club in Connecticut. During my time there I did not focus on winning, but our record went from 0-7 to 7-0. I attribute this to the power of positive teaching. After I completed Loyola University MD, I went into B2B Corporate sales, where I was successful, but my passion remained with teaching. Recently I was a PE Coach at a school, and I started an after school program for tennis and golf for the children.

I started substitute teaching in 1983 while I was working on my Master's Degree at California State University, Long Beach. I have been a substitute teacher in Long Beach, Santa Barbara, Glendale, and Palm Springs. I have had experience as a long term substitute in Senior English for a year at Palm Springs High School, also in Palm Springs, I did six months as a Special Education teacher at Cree Middle School.
