I like to combine both direct instruction and hands-on activities when teaching. I believe that allowing students to apply their learning to real-life situations helps them to both find meaning in their learning and attach the learning to a memorable experience. I get really excited about the subjects that I teach and my excitement carries over to my students. I am a college graduate seeking employment. I graduated from Herkimer County Community College and SUNYIT in Utica. During that time I spent 3 years tutoring several levels of mathematics and intro to financial accounting for HCCC for 3 years. I went from a student tutor to a part-time tutor in my time there receiving a CRLA (College Reading and Learning Association) certificate for my work and a great amount of experience in that time. It was possibly the most enjoyable experience of my college career.

Prior to homeschooling my six children, I worked as a Research Assistant at the Schriner's Burn Institute in Boston, and then at Darmouth College Medical School in Hanover, NH. My science and laboratory background from UVM was beneficial to my success in these labs. I have now spent to past 18 years homeschooling my children. The three oldest have graduated high school with complete NY state requirements. They have all tested in the 700's in Verbal SAT and high 600's for Math. Over the years I have found math and reading/writing to be important skills and they were amongst the most useful tools I had ever learned. Over the years it has served we well and I enjoy teaching the material to younger people while explaining to them its benefits, but also allowing them to have a skill that will serve them well. Along with 7 other students, I was directly hired out of college to teach 7th grade English. Along with my 4 years of Latin experience, it increased my abilities in the grammatical aspect of the English language. I also tutored college students while I was attending in first yr Latin and math. I took 4 yrs of French in high school, graduated Shenendehowa in 1974. I worked a year in the Tutoring Department located at Mohawk Valley Community College. This was an open lab which meant 3-4 students would need help at any one particular time period. Subject Help that I was required for involved Pre-Calculus, Calculus (I & II), Physics, Algebra, Trigonometry and basic electrical courses. I encourage students to see the wonder and "mystery" (there really isn't any mystery) of Math, regardless of the level, in the real world. To that aid, I try to present real world problems at levels the student can understand. For lower level students, I investigate with them the development of the linear equations involved in setting up a relationship between two factors.
