Learning is serious, but that doesn't mean it has to be grim

I have a Texas Teaching Certificate for K-8, all subjects. In addition to teaching elementary school I taught courses at the University of Texas in Austin in the undergraduate teacher education program. I supervised dozens of student teachers at UT, and have spent the past 17 years conducting professional development for educators (teachers, curriculum directors, principals and superintendents) in the field.

My comments on tutoring Elementary Math : I have taught elementary math in the public school system, at home with my own children and as a tutor. I use everything at my disposal. I have been known to use peanuts sitting on a counter to successfully teach double digit subtraction before. I taught a first grader to count to 100 with a 100 box. which is a 10 X 10 box that he could then visualize while counting. It just depends on what style of learner the student is as to what teaching method I will use. Some use a hands on approach, some visualize, some just neeed auditory.

3 years experience as an educator in the Copperas Cove Independent School District. 2 years experience working independently as a tutor in all core courses with grades pre-K through 6th grade. I have taught all ranges of students, including special education students with ADHD and both high functioning autism and retardation. In the public school setting the special education classes were all taught together as one. However I have tutored them on a one on one basis more effectively. Just like every other student, they need individual attention to retain what they are taught and have their own learning style that can only be found in a personal tutor that understands their behavior and learning needs. If your child struggles in reading or math I am here to help

I have volunteered in a school district for just over 3 years and when I do volunteer I assist children in the classroom who have problems in their reading and math. By assisting these students they have improved on their tests as well as gaining confidence in their learning. I work really well one on one with the child who needs such assistance but also in small groups. If needed to assist a child online it can be done as long as there are materials available for the child that is provided by the school.
