ACT is one of my top subjects!

I utilize elements of each of the five teaching styles; however, I prefer the I Do, We Do, You Do style of learning. I firmly believe in providing clear instruction and demonstration of each concept. Then, the student and I work together to master a concept. After that, I provide the student an opportunity to practice and demonstrate his/her mastery of the material in a variety of situations. If the student still needs help, I reteach. I believe in positive reinforcement. Every student can succeed. No one succeeds if he/she feels unimportant or unsuccessful. I started my tutoring experience in the math Lab at AUM when they stared up and continued until till I gratuated. I then started tutoring with the Learning center at AUM for several years. My job at Trenholm occasionaly required me to tutor more than one person. I emplement many differnt teaching stragies depending on the students needs. A student may require implements to learn a lesseon, or may require visual attetion while other are audio learns. It is hard to say till you learn the student.

A Little Bit About Me...

In general, I simply love working with children. I find great happiness in knowing that I personally helped a child succeed academically. As the oldest of four children, I have always been a leader amongst my siblings and always found myself helping them academically as they grew older. I enjoy teaching one-on-one and have found this to be the most effective in regards to my students success. I believe that every student can do well in math but every student has a different pace. I try to adapt to each student's pace/learning style as I explain a new concept.
After completing my MS in Mathematics from CSU East Bay, I began tutoring high school students privately. I began tutoring students in 1984 while working in the math lab as an undergraduate student at the University of Southern Mississippi. After completing my Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics with a general science minor, I had the opportunity to teach college algebra as a graduate teaching assistant. I have been tutoring/teaching mathematics and some sciences ever since. I have experience tutoring students on skills needed for the ACT and for the Alabama High School Graduation Exam.
I truly enjoy teaching math and enjoy watching the 'click' when a student begins to understand the concepts.
