I have been tutoring in various math, elementary, and Spanish areas for 13 years. I have tutored students from elementary school age to adults. I have also tutored students all over the US and in other coutries. I have listed all the areas that I am comfortable tutoring. My tutoring style is somewhat laid-back with serious undertones. I feel the best way to learn is to not have information force fed, but to allow the individual to glean knowledge and come to an understanding of the subject gradually. My comments on tutoring Algebra : Most students find this subject easy once it is properly taught for understanding. Math facts must be mastered first, and We can do that quickly and easily with my programs.

I graduate with my BS in Middle Grades Education on Dec 20th. I am ceritifed in Math and Social Studies and will seek my certification in Language Arts in Jan 2013. This covers both semesters of general physics, from classical mechanics to waves to electricity and magnetism to optics and modern. I have also taken all of the upper level courses available at the school.

I'm fairly laid back. I try to get to know the student first and see how they do with their work on their own and of course helping them out when needed. Occasionally, I'll give my own tests to see how well their test taking skills are and how they do under pressure. Once I get an idea of which area is their weak point, I'll prioritize the subjects so that more time is focused on their weak area whether it be reading, math, writing, or even just test taking skills. I also do a lot of fun logic puzzles to get them thinking and also creative writing projects so that they have a way to express themselves. I think it is very important for children to have a chance to break away from the standardized tests and be allowed to think outside the box starting at a young age.

I have been teaching middle school math for twenty seven years. I have been tutoring for 22 years. I myself had trouble with math when I was growing up and that helps me to break the standard down in smaller steps to help the student to understand. I like to teach the concept and then use a game and/ or puzzle to reinforce it. I also am a firm believer in repetition.
