A Little Bit About Me...

Being in college for four years exposed me to social environments that I normally wouldn't have been able to encounter on a day to day basis. Whether I was learning on my own, working with or helping fellow classmates, or even just observing how the professors worked with us, I was always learing new concepts or methods of how to interact with a wide variety of characteristics in a diverse group of people. And due to the difficulty of my major, I feel that by being able to communicate well with others in this area I could handle various other scenarios as well. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that instructional strategies should be varied and flexible. Students are unique and their learning styles are different. Teachers need to have varied instructional strategies to try and meet the needs of the diversity of their students. I believe that knowledge of subject matter is extremely important, but not the sole component in instruction. In Mathematics, teachers need to have an understanding of mathematics as well as methods for transferring this knowledge to students. A Language Arts teacher may be knowledgeable about reading and writing, but has to find creative, interesting methods and activities to make students want to learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

At MSU, I first worked as a Supplemental Instructor and then became a Graduate Assistant (before I even earned my Bachelor's degree) in the School of Business. I also worked in the math department as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant. I have taught business, accounting and math classes at the college level when instructor was absent. Accounting is by far my strong suit, followed by Excel, Economics and Math, however I do not use high-level math often, although I got A's in everything throughout college.
I enjoy teaching at a high school level or above. I am very hands on. I am a bit of a story teller - rearranging the circumstances of the problem into an issue more easily related to by the student. I am very patient and relaxed - there are very few people who have a lower stress level than I do.
