Micro welding had to teach others how to set machines and run them. I built parts which went to the moon, had to teach the others how they were made. Owned an upholstery business and taught people how to sew, cut, and hang the materials on the furniture. I helped my sons and later my granddaughters with home work. My teaching style is inclusive of the hands-on approach. I believe that all students should have equal access to education. While that doesn't hold true, in the classroom, I encourage and appreciate students whom voice their opinion on a regular basis. I believe that all students also have a different approach to learning, and thus, they must be approached differently with different methods. Some students are definitely visual learners, while others are auditory or kinesthetic learners. My teaching style is participatory. I like to ask questions of the student and have them verbalize what they know. This gives me the opportunity to identify possible gaps in their knowledge and to fill in those gaps. I also try to relate covered material to historical events. For instance, when talking about the importance of analytical chemistry, I like to talk about the Marsh test which was developed in the 1830’s as a definitive reaction for arsenic poisoning. In like manner, I like to relate covered material to the personal experiences of the student.
