I am a recent college graduate from Ashland University with a degree in communication and French. While at Ashland as well as in high school, I was involved in peer tutoring programs. In high school, I tutored a second year student in French, mainly in grammatical concepts. In terms of mathematics, I was always a strong student in math. I have worked with children for many years and in many different settings. I have observed so many different learning styles and I strive, as a teacher, to be flexible enough to help a child learn using their strengths. I teach children and adults according to the wishes of the learner. I love teaching music theory and aural skills; however, I also love to make people discover learning music at their own pace and developments. For example, my husband learns to play certain music that I picked up by ear on the piano which he chose to learn. I teach him how to play something and he eventually learns to dictate it on sheet paper from learning it. A Little Bit About Me...

I feel my style of teaching is one of being a facilitator. I choose to interact with the student by asking questions so enabling them to reach the answer through their own thinking processes. The excitement of seeing their confidence build as they realize they can figure out problems independently is the reward of being an educator. I believe my job is to guide and support the student.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently working on my Mild and Moderate teaching certification. My goal is to work with students with cognitive and specific learning disabilities. I recently completed a Reading, Writing and Math workshop through North Coast Educational Services, which has enabled me to learn different strategies and techniques to help students struggling in reading and math.
