As I am a very auditory/visual learner, I tend to to lean towards both auditory and visual techniques. I question the students as to what he or she intended to say in their writing, what is the intent of the paper--will this persuade the reader, inform the reader, compare/contrast ideas-- and see if the writer is in fact accomplishing this goal through effect word choices, sound reasoning, specific examples, and other components of writing. The hope is to edit the document for clarity geared towards the reader of the document and to polish the writing skills of the student.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always enjoyed tutoring students and seeing them "get" the subjects we are touching on. The look on their face during this moment is priceless. I fully understand that everyone learns things in different ways. While one student may be able to memorize and understand facts one way, say by repetition, another student may learn the information by understanding the background and context that it comes from. I am very patient and flexible with students and realize that if they do not understand the material that it is not their fault, but rather I need to try a different approach with them. A good education is not only valuable in life, but I feel that students gain self confidence when they see their grades improve and they actually understand their class work. I think it is important for students to develop self- esteem and see themselves succeeding, and that is what I work on first including staying on task. I have always used Madeline Hunters guidelines for successful lesson plans, which includes using manipulatives to assist students in understanding concepts. I have found that there is nothing so rewarding as that moment when a subject 'clicks' for a student. By staying positive and adaptive I believe it is possible to guide students to finding solutions on their own. I work at finding new ways to approach common stumbling blocks and try to show students how applicable math is to everyday life.
