I believe I have a talent for taking a complex subject, and simplifying it in such a way that anyone can understand it. That is how I was able to successfully tutor many fellow students since high school. It is also how I managed to do well enough myself in science classes.
While working for Professor Weiss at the Pennsylvania State University as an undergraduate researcher for four years, I gained experience in scanning tunneling microscopy, self-assembled monolayers, molecular electronics, and nanotechnology generally. Teaching is a difficult task. Everyone learns at a different pace and on their own level. Some students are quick learners and their teacher only needs to go over the lesson once; other students need to hear the subject content in a different form to understand it. Having said that, I can't explain my teaching style as a cut and dry formula. The skill level of each student and the way they process information will determine how I will present them with questions and explanations. I use a lot of repetition and the asking of questions to ensure that students are learning concepts. I also try to give them analogies to help them remember things. I love working with children, as the oldest in a big family, I have often served as caretaker while my father is at work. I currently have an 8 year old younger brother who I'm working with as well as one in his Sophomore year of High school. I'm helping him with algebra and pre-calc.
I've tutored kids within the inner cities of Atlanta, through a program called Emory reads. As a tutor I was responsible for helping them with their homework which included all subjects.
