My comments on tutoring Algebra : I am certified in math 5-9 and have worked with programs like Illustrative Math.

I have a classroom in my apartment actually because I used to teach students in China until the Ministry of education changed. As a result, I have close to four years experience in online teaching with a hardwire Internet connection and lights. I also have a few classroom props that I enjoy using. Students find that I am patient and I have a sense of humor. Having rapport with a student is one of the most important skills, if not the most important skill that a tutor could use.
As a 20 year teacher, I have worked with students from a variety of backgrounds and situations. I enjoy finding ways to help learners accomplish things that they thought were just impossible a few weeks earlier. While, I have worked with all students from K 12 . My primary area has been middle school. With that mentioned, I do online tutoring for students of all ages.

I have training in the Balanced Literacy program in which the word study, reading objectives, and writers' workshop are combined in a one and a half hour block of student driven, teacher facilitated activities. These are ultimately shared in a whole group and or one on one setting. When tutoring, I do a very brief mini lesson on the objective and we go immediatley into the task at hand with instant feedback and adaptation between the reader or writer and myself as we progress through the lesson. If the student is hung on vowel digraphs, we stop and examine those and do word work with several examples. My next choices for them to read would have more vowel digraphs. If my student is confused about where to put the punctuation in a quotation, we will do several real world scenerios where he will write statements, questions, and exclaimations correcting as we go along. Coming from a family with no prior college education, I made it a point to not only graduate from a four-year university but to work as hard as I could to be the best at what I do. I accomplished what I have set out to do by graduating with a degree at both institutes I attended with a GPA above 3.0. I have tutored my younger brother for several years in the four major subjects. I also worked in high school as a teaching aid for a 4th grade class at Jefferson Elementary School and actually taught math and science to the class.
