I wanted very much to teach at the Liberal Arts College level but was unable to secure a full-time, permanent position. In pursuit of this goal, I have completed an MS in Physics, all the coursework necessary for a MS in Mathematics, an MA in Philosophy, and I am working to complete my PhD in philosophy. Over the last 10 years I have taught at every level from high school to university, and have frequently tutored students at all of these levels. I have never taught a subject, physics, mathematics or philosophy, at a level that was beyond the abilities of any student who really wanted to master the material, and I don't think I'd be interested at teaching at that level. Many students are not able to master these subjects in school, but quite often it is not due to a lack of desire on their part, but instead a lack of sufficient preparation due most often to poor prior instruction. As a Computer Science graduate, I have had extensive experience in Mathematics, physics, and computers. As I have always been passionate about teaching, I always taught while attending school. Teaching and tutoring experience: - High school calculus - SAT Princeton Review teacher - ACT Princeton Review teacher - General high school Math tutor - Computer literacy - High school Physics - English (TOEFL) I have strong written skills as I have gained experience writing my honor thesis and receiving a certificate in Entrepreneurship. I love the interaction between a teacher and their students. For me teaching is a form of self discovery. My students are like mirrors in which I see my strengths and weaknesses. I constantly learn from my students and I grow as they grow. I feel as individuals we are limitless and teaching reminds me of it as I see my students grow. My students i

I strongly believe in learning by doing. I have never given a lecture or taught something 1on1 without providing practice problems or peppering students with questions. The hardest part about this is getting students to understand that it is okay to ask and answer questions. Most students I have encountered are used to simply looking at the teacher but never really interacting with them. If I ask a question and nobody gets it, I rephrase it, reteach the section that led up to the question and generally try to understand why the question is not being answered. Aside from some initial amount of memorization, students need to learn how to think through concepts and ideas, and the best way to do that, regardless of subject, is ask them things. As a rising junior at Cornell University, I was asked to TA a Chemistry course for engineers. I accepted and entered into my first teaching position.
