I was let go from a local company earlier this year. I have decided to make a career change and my goal is to teach math at the high school level. I have a year of college to be certified. I'm a full student at CCC, and will take the Pedagogy requirements at Elmira College. I intend to tutor and substitute teach this winter and spring during college. In industry, I was a Mechanical Engineer and spent time in management. I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a MBA. I spent ten years in the Army and National Guard. I am divorced and raising four children. I am active in the local Boy Scout troop.

A Little Bit About Me...

Working with students in math, I like to ask what the student enjoys doing while not in school. I like to relate this to the math to make it more interesting as well as making it fun. This will also make the student more comfortable and lowers the stress level. In lower level courses in basic math up to middle level courses such as algebra, the methods used are integrating the content into the unsolved variables and/or word problems. In higher level courses such as differential calculus, I like to give a specific scenario where the content would relate to what they would do in the activity or hobby outside of school.

I am a recent graduate of SUNY Potsdam. I received my bachelors degree in physics, and minored in mathematics. I also hold two associate degrees, one in Liberal Arts and another in Math & Science. I also spent time as a math & physics tutor at Corning Community College's math learning center. During my time there, I tutored students from algebra to calculus, and in elementary physics. As a student at Corning Community College, I was a tutor in the Math Learning Center. Of the two years I attended Corning, I worked in the MLC for one and a half of those years. As a tutor, I helped other students with subjects including: Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Trigonometry, Statistics, Applied Calculus, Calculus, and Calculus II. As a result of my tutoring style, I had several students return for additional assistance. As a result of being a tutor from Corning, I had the opportunity to work with a wide range of students. These students ranged from Freshman right out of High-School to working adults who are trying to further their education.
