My comments on tutoring Pre-Algebra : Taken in High School.

I graduated High School in 2011. During my junior year of High School I started home schooling so I could take college classes. I took three classes at Skyline College, all of which were completed with a B or better by the time I was a senior in High School. Along with my college classes I babysat a five year old and tutored him three days a week. During my senior year of High School I would regularly tutor a 16 year old and a 14 year old. After I graduated High School, I attended Modesto Junior College for the 2011/2012 Fall Semester. I always say I start my tutoring with the basics. Together we will master what you already know and from there we will move on to more complex skills. For a faster response you may contact me through email at: crystal_silva11@yahoo.com

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been tutoring college students with their math and science problems for about half year. Throughout my experience in the field of tutoring, I have found that it is important to establish a trusting relationship with those you teach. Although many people experience obstacles in learning math and science, I believe that by approaching mutiple ways to the problem, every student can find a approach that works for them.

A Little Bit About Me...

I feel like I'm very much a hands-on type of instructor. I really believe that the best way to understand something is to keep practicing it and so I like to guide and help speed up this process by giving lots of examples and feedback. I also believe that there's no use learning something if you don't learn it right and it's that belief that makes me so dedicated to my job.

I graduated high school with a full International Baccalaureate Program Diploma, and a 4.53 weighted GPA. I then went on to receive a full ride scholarship to Santa Clara University for Computer Engineering, where I took part in the University's Honors Program. There I completed 3 years of study in computer science, classical languages, and Spanish, before deciding to change directions and gain real-world experience. After a brief leave of absence, I entered Licensing Education Courses for the field of Insurance, passed the License Exam, and went to work as the Vice President of Marketing for Financial and Insurance Services, an independent insurance brokerage in Fresno, CA. A Little Bit About Me...

I had no intention of teaching when I started my career in Psychology and the Analytical Chemistry industry. I continuously tried to improve my methadology to arrive at the right mix of stimulation and information to make the learning process as interesting as possible. Teaching the Physics of Xrays and chemical analysis does challenge one to keep assessing the learned content and modify as results indicate. The results of effective teaching and learning start with asking questions about the purpose of the instructions, how will the results of the learning be measured, and what is educational level of the students? I try to teach them how to learn, rather than the concepts of facts and numbers, what do the numbers mean?

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from USC with a degree in Business and have spent six years as an actuary working in a professional and math-oriented field for major firms (Blue Shield and Mercer). I have a strong background in math dating back to high school where I scored an 800 on the SAT math section as a junior. I also bring experience working with youth. I tutored math to junior high, high school and college students off and on during past decade. I worked three summers as summer camp counselor, spent one summer as a behavioral coach for autistic children and taught math one summer at private academy.
People are always surprised when they find out I'm a math nerd. I'm outgoing, I like to joke and I play sports. But believe it or not, I actually do enjoy math and this is one of the biggest reasons for my success as a tutor/teacher. I don't fake my enthusiasm and this helps e ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I have been fortunate to teach students at both ends of the learning spectrum. Four years ago, I decided to teach the remedial algebra courses at our high school. In doing so, I have built my repertoire of strategies to teach algebra concepts. I feel that my passion for the study of geometry combined with 21 years of teaching high school geometry, have made me a successful geometry teacher. In teaching a challenging subject like geometry to young students, I focus on vocabulary techniques and drawing diagrams that will make geometry as visual as possible.
I started college as a math major with a concentration in finite math. My goal was to work for a company using both my mathematics and computer programming skills. In my junior year of college, I realized that ever since high school I had enjoyed helping my friends with their math as much as I enjoyed taking math classes. I ... read more

I enjoy teaching and sharing my knowledge on a subject with others. I think if you know a subject well and refuse to help someone in need with that knowledge, you are being a bit selfish. If you have knowledge, share it with the world even if the world doesn’t want to listen. I am also a strong believer that you can teach any subject to anyone, you just need to find the right approach. My goal is to find that approach and help the student achieve their greatest potential.
I am a recent graduate from CSU Stanislaus. I have obtained my BS in Biological Science with a concentration in Genetics and a Minor in Chemistry, which has given me knowledge and understanding in different areas of math and science. In addition to my BS, I have tutored students in Algebra, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus since January 2005.

A Little Bit About Me...

My style is to teach a concept during the one on one session with me. I then give them homework to reinforce the learning on personal time. In the following meeting I revise what we learnt in previous session to ensure they understood before proceeding to next topic. I work with students with different learning styles (pictures, words and numbers) and will adapt to their needs. I am patient and will explain numerous times, in different ways, to ensure learning.
During my undergraduate years, I was tutoring a local grade 4 student in math. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience in making a difference in somebody's life. During the last 15 years in my career, I have always been involved in training/teaching/mentoring individuals whether it is a new computer system or helping my direct staff to grow to their full potential.
