Writing, reading, and english have always been my passions. Next fall I will be heading back to school in order to obtain my teaching credentials, and in the meantime, I thought that I would use my talents to help others.

Highly Experienced Teacher/Director looking to help students

Students best learn by doing, by experiencing, and from a variety of experiences that incorporate their five senses. Students learn with different paces and styles. There is no one way for a student to become well-rounded, it is just a matter of providing experiences where the student can learn from the environment. It is not a matter of one student being better than the other, rather it is a matter of students learning in different ways.
My experience entails a well rounded experience of teaching students from preK to adult. My most important position was acting as Director of Education for Sylvan Learning, where I basically ran the learning center. I supervised teachers and all student programs, conferred with parents from the beginning to the end of their experience with Sylvan, and did so much more to develop a positive experience with all clients and teachers involved. I have ... read more

Education: Montclair State University BA - Art History BA - General Humanities Minor - Art History Other - Sigma Alpha Lambda Honors Society I am a museum educator and professional writer. Museum Education: I began volunteering with a local museum in the fourth grade and have continued ever since. I have always preferred working in living history museums as opposed to the big, dusty museums with everything behind glass beside little plaques that are too wordy even for industry professionals to find interesting. I've had many wonderful experiences portraying real individuals as well as no-name individuals from the Revolutionary War all the way up through the first half of the 20th century. Real, tangible history is what I always aim for - I can cook on a wood burning stove and know the basics of pre-industrialized farming, just to name a few things. Writing: I ... read more

My comments on tutoring Journalism : I know how to keep sentences & paragraphs short and can make quick corrections under deadline pressure.

B.A. in English, Liberal Arts from The College of New Jersey. Experienced Reporter, specializing in news and feature stories. Experienced Editor/Proofreader, specializing in Associated Press (AP) style. At the moment, I am working for the Professional Service Group of Central New Jersey as a Managing Editor of their Multi-Author Blog (MAB). I come up with story ideas and assign them to Writers. I edit articles, write headlines, work closely with the Layout Editor to make sure the articles are formatted correctly online.
I will use examples to teach. I will provide students with examples of the correct and incorrect ways to write a sentence. I will show pupils how to proofread their work for spelling and grammatical errors so that they do not rely solely on their spellchecker.

A highly compassionate and committed educator.

Ever since I began working in NYC public schools seven years ago as a licensed Paraprofessional, I became passionate about teaching while continuously learning and developing my methods of instruction working with multi-culturally diverse students with various needs. After recently graduating this year with my master’s degree in dual certification for regular and special education from Touro College, I became certified to teach grades 1-6 in NYC. As a Paraprofessional, theater instructor, choreographer, and student teacher I efficiently utilized Common Core standards while also understanding the commitment and dedication of integrated co-teaching and the importance of communication with my administration. My commitment to maximizing individual student performance through assessment and differentiated learning allows my students to flourish with ideas and excitement that can be applied in ... read more

More About This Tutor...

Since 2000, I have tutored students of all levels in a variety of subjects. During my undergraduate studies, I earned a BA in communication (public relations) and specialized in political science. At that time, I was trained through 4H America Reads to teach young, multilingual students how to read. While not tutoring, I practice criminal law. My job requires me to write and speak to an array of audiences each day. I also make appearances at local schools and libraries for presentations. Contact me if you need help with any project or report, reading, writing, vocabulary, business, government and study skills.
I began tutoring K through 5th graders at an elementary school. Many of my students only spoke Spanish at home. From then, I continued tutoring elementary school students with a wide range of abilities. A few of my students were gifted, and we worked on sharpening their alre ... read more

I focus on starting small and helping the student develop on their own. For example, when I teach how to write a strong essay, we write many drafts of an introduction. Then, we write many drafts of body paragraphs. Last, we would focus on writing a conclusion. Then, by working seperately on all of an essay's parts, the combined product is much stronger. The art of teaching is similiar to building a house: you start with an idea, then a foundation, and finally the framework.
I volunteered at the Ocean County Library writing center for four years and helped my peers construct, organize, and layout essays. I also proofread, edited, and helped in the creative process of their essays. I am curreently working part-time at Ocean County Library (Lakewood Branch) tutoring k-12 students after school in the S.M.A.R.T kids program.

While a student at Penn State University, I worked hard to obtain a 4 year degree in English in just 3 1/2 years. During my time there, I served as a Writer for the College of Agricultural Sciences News, an Acquisitions Intern at Penn State Press, a Writing Tutor at Penn State Learning, and as a Teacher's Assistant for a specialized class in the College of the Liberal Arts. As a professional, I have spent time working at Princeton University Press and also as a freelance copyeditor. A Little Bit About Me...

I would describe my style with one word, "patient." I have a creative approach, an outgoing personality, and an encouraging demeanor. I am after results; I feel that every individual person benefits from various learning techniques and "one certain way" may not work with every student. A degree in the specific subject area, another soon-to-be degree in actually teaching that subject area, and real-world experience in the writing field within notorious companies, make me the most suited instructor to guide a young person to their fullest potential.
I have not only graduated college with a BA in Communications and a specialization in journalism, I am also currently enrolled back in school to earn additional credits for my teaching certification. I will have my CE by the end of Summer 2011. I have interned/worked in NY for HUGO BOSS CO headquarters, Meredith Publishing Company (Ladies ... read more
