Within my Bachelor of Science in Education and Human Sciences, I earned my K-12 provisional English as a Second Language endorsement as well as my 7-12 Language Arts endorsement. A Little Bit About Me...

The thing I enjoy most about teaching is seeing a concept "click" in a child's head. I feel that this is possible with all children if the right strategy is used to teach them. Students learn in lots of different ways. I feel it would be my job as a tutor to find out what would work in each student's academic life. Whether it be a more hands-on approach, or simply reading from a book, I find what helps each child to learn most effectively. This, in turn helps them to progress in their endeavors at school.

A Little Bit About Me...

Prior to and during my employment with Metropolitan Community College (Between 1998 and 2007) I was a volunteer tutor with non traditional students in the Adult Basic Education/General Education Development ABE/GED program of Metro community college.
I love to see the proverbial light come on and the students eyes widen and they say "OH! I get it!" I've tutored a wide variety of students from diverse backgrounds. I try to make mathematics fun, like a puzzle to be figured out, and remove the "hard chore" stigma which is generally hard pressed into a students mind by the time I arrive. Getting the student to believe in themselves and believe mathematics isn't a daunting task it's just difficult until you learn the tricks is my goal. I've notice most students find word problems to be most challenging so I purchased a word problem book to draw examples from which seems to help.

With my experience in many classrooms, I am a firm believer that all children can learn. However, each child has different needs, and they will learn in different ways. As a teacher, I try to provide instruction in a variety of ways to accommodate to a variety of learners. Many struggling students will succeed if material is taught in a different form. Hands-on and discovery learning are both excellent ways of adapting for students. I believe the best way to teach a child is to get to know them and their interests, and provide instruction in a way that fits their needs.
