SUCCESS, RIGHT AT YOUR DOORSTEP!

I have been an educator for almost 20 years. I began my teaching career as a substitute teacher and immediately fell in love with teaching children with special needs. Desiring to continue to teach, I finished a Master's degree which gave me the endorsements to teach K-12 children with special needs. Since then, I have taught reading and mathematics to both children with special needs and regular education children at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. As I gained a greater thirst to do more to help children, outside of teaching in the public school setting, I bagan tutoring. Between teacing within the public school and tutoring outside of the public school setting, I gained a great deal of experience when it comes to identifying strategies that cause children to learn and retain what they have learned. Creativity is Key

I've been tutoring English for almost 2 years and playing bass for five. I enjoy teaching and watching people learn. I believe in teaching a craft in a way the student will surpass the teacher and perfect it. I have a pretty unique style of tutoring. Creative Writing is one of my top subjects! I took a creative writing class for two years in high school. I feel that I have a very creative mind and I have good writing composition. I received an A in the class both years.

What I try to do first is get the student to work out the problem, and as they are doing that I will work the problem as well. We will go over our answers together so I have a chance to explain the problem to the student. I believe that repitition and practice makes perfect as long as you have someone to explain it along the way. I will thoroughly explain the problem to the student if they don't understand it. By the end I would hope that the student could then explain how to do the problem to me.

A Little Bit About Me...

one on one
With more than 3 years of experience in French and English tutoring, I have developed effective teaching strategies to make students fully benefit from my lessons. Those strategies consist of explaining complex grammar concepts using real-life contexts, arousing students' interest in the material at hand, and encouraging students to continually practice the language. I have been tutoring college freshmen and sophomores at the Northern Virginia Community College since 2011. Concurrently, I have also taught elementary and high school students. I currently work as a language lab assistant at NVCC. In that capacity, I review and edit students’ French and English oral assignments. P.S. I prefer one-on-one settings. As always, I pledge to make my students' learning experience as smooth and fruitful as possible. Nils K

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching individuals of all ages and cultures. I adopt a hands on approach to learning and have extreme patience for slower learners. My main goal during teaching is to help one have a better understanding of the subject by relating to the material. To reach this goal it is imperative that I am resourceful enough to provide my students with vital and accurate information.
During high school I interned in a first grade classroom for one year in which I planmed/taught lessons. I also have young siblings and family members which I help with assignments on a daily basis. In college, I tutored students taking various Psychology courses. I enjoy conducting research, reading scientific articles, analyzing and interpreting data.
