I believe in Minimalism. I tutor Math from the point of view that the shortest path is the best path but everyone learns differently and finding the right method for my students is one of my main goals when tutoring. I teach students multiple ways to solve a particular problems and they get to decide which method works best for them, hopefully its the simplest method. Public School class rooms have 30 plus students and only one instructor. The low instructor to student ratio makes it difficult for more then one method to be taught leaving some students behind. When students feel they don't understand, they become self conscience of their perceived lack of knowledge making them less confident in mathematics which leads to procrastination on their homework . Besides finding the right method, another of my principle goals is helping my students grow in confidence. I want my students to enjo ... read more

My comments on tutoring Logic : I am able to figure out Logic/Puzzle problems naturally, and is something that is basic for me to solve. I am a great problem solver in this subject. I use systems, clues, and strategy to answer logic questions.

My teaching style is multi-dimensional, and personally tailored to each specific student. Each student is unique and special. Everyone has a different learning style, which means each person has different need in terms of how they learn. I learn about each student, and take the time to figure out how they take in information. Also how they best understand their course material, and whether their learning style is Visual, Auditory, or Kinesthetic. Perhaps a person's learning style is a combination of these three things. When I teach, I use colors (pens/markers), diagrams, figures, counting figures(ex: colored counting bears), and a writing board to work out/solve math problems. When tutoring in Reading, Spelling, and Vocabulary I use the writing board, flash cards, and stories to help my students feel compforatble with their subjects. I listen to each one of my students, and a ... read more

Math, Physics and Electrical Engineering Tutor

Hello, My name is Brian and I majored in Electrical Engineering at the University of California, Riverside. In middle school and high school, I took every Honors and Advanced Placement math and science class offered. In college I have taken differential equations, single and multi-variable calculus and physics for engineers. I have always excelled in math and in high school I found that I am also good a teaching it to others. I do not have a lot of formal tutoring experience. I mainly have just helped out friends and friends' siblings whenever it was needed. In high school I helped classmates when they did not understand certain concepts in our math classes. I also tutored a friend's younger brother for about a year and a half, in Geometry and Algebra 2. His parents asked if I could help him because he was struggling in geometry and we succeeded in raising his grade from a D on his ... read more

A HAPPY ENERGETIC MOTIVATED COLLEGE TUTOR FOR ALL STUDENTS!!

My teaching and tutoring experience is not perfect however, i have taught middle school math and chemistry when i was volunteering in the local library for "Homework Help" program. I can not say about my teaching style because i do not own one. Instead of having my strict teaching style, i tune my speaking and personal teaching style for the student. Every single student has different personality and ability to embrace so i happliy respect my students and do my best to help out them. I am a sophomore at UC Davis and majoring in Biomedical Engineering. I am very energetic highly motivated to teach and help students. I really want to share my energy and motivation with my future student so i will be really happy to br a tutor for them. Thank you for your consideration! :)

Tutoring To Ensure Success

I believe that the best way for a tutor to assist the student is to adapt to the individual’s learning style. We all have different approaches to learning and identifying which method maximizing your understanding of the topic helps to not only gain insight into difficult concepts, but furthermore increases your interest in the subject being taught. I have tutored countless students since my middle school years and have found this method to be most efficient. I find that given both my experience and younger age, it is far easier for me to approach a student and help them learn to the best of their capabilities.

Anyway the student catches on. No specific teaching way, I just go off of how the student learns because everyone learns in very different ways.

I have taught in a church setting with both Jr. High and High School students for 17 years. Both in a large setting, small groups and one-on-one. Mentoring was also a big part of this so I have learned how to meet kids where they are and interact with them at their level and learning style. I have a BA in Youth Ministry and Bible. In addition I have worked in the IT field for 20 years now and also have alot of knowledge in mathematics and architecture.
I love putting energy into kids and being able to help them reach their potential. Each child is able to learn. It is finding that aspect that clicks for them (verbal, visual, written) and how they associate tasks and goals. I look forward to working with your child and give them the best chance to succeed.

My students often say I can’t be a teacher because they “just get it" when I explain. Even so, my degree is in math and I've taught professionally and privately. I have a history of maintaining high scores and would rather show why something works than how to follow steps. I don't expect students to love math or do it "my way" but I want students to know math isn't scary. To this end, I explain every step, do assessments to determine student needs and base instruction on student knowledge. If possible, I like to make sure students are comfortable working alone before I leave and will help students learn mental shortcuts, use a calculator and think logically. Overall I love watching students succeed.

I have been teaching for over 20 years. I believe that they key to good teaching is connecting the lesson to the studnet's lives. If you can make it interesting and relevent to the people then you will be a much more effective teacher. When you teache history connect othe present. For example, when a teach about the plague I compare it to aids. This way students can understand what it was like for the people whoi went through having the plague and not only were they dying but they were condemmed as well. Good teaching is cnnecting to your studnets.

I have tutored math since I was a senior in high school. I aspire to become a math instructor, and I plan to go to graduate school for math. I'm a third-year math major at University of California, Berkeley. I will be graduating in Spring 2009. I have mastered my tutoring skills through working with elementary school children, high school and college students for the last three years. I think I know math really well and I'm able to assist others with math. In addition, I am very interested in math history, which enables me to blend interesting stories about math into my tutoring to inspire the tutees.

A Little Bit About Me...

Prior to receiving my degree from University of California, Davis, I worked in the classroom as a teacher’s assistant for two Professors at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, California. As a professor’s assistant, I had the opportunity to tutor students, grade assignments, and organize material for lectures and labs. I held tutorial sessions to clarify information for students who were in need of extra help with the class material. Being a tutor for math, science, and study skills required me to have patience and great communication in order to relate the information effectively. Also, I teach the fundamentals of basketball to children, ages 3-14, at the community centers and coach women’s varsity basketball at Bear Creek High School in Stockton, California. My experiences helped me motivate children to reach their highest potential so that they will have confidence to succeed in ... read more
