My first major mentoring/teaching experience occurred in college when I began leading study groups and eventually organizing tutoring sessions with a number of my fellow English, Calculus, and Physics students. I then obtained a position as a youth counselor with the YMCA and quickly moved up to Site Coordinator where I was in charge of my own after school care group, including being in charge of organizing activities and managing youth counselors. Most recently I underwent PADI Divemaster training where I had real world experience teaching and assisting PADI Open Water students with classroom, confined water, and open water training. I am able to relate to students using their learning style and references that connect them to the material for better success. I am patient and use my sense of humor to figure out how a student learns to get the best results. I do not believe that one method works for everybody. I have a lot of experience with students with learning challenges. I love it when a student says "Wow." I like to support and reward their path to understanding. I thoroughly enjoy teaching young minds. Regardless of the reason that student is seeking tutoring, whether it be a demonstrated deficiency in performance, or a desire to excel in the subject matter, tutoring is an ideal method to provide individualized instruction to the student and tailor that instruction for maximum efficacy. As a tutor, one may vary their teaching style from student to student and further modify their approach with each student dependent upon daily emotional and motivational changes of said student.
