Social Studies and Creative Writing (English)

I am currently a Sociology student at Augsburg College. I am also pursuing a minor in Psychology. This year will be my last, so I will graduate in 2014. Also, I have taken several creative writing courses at the Loft Literary center, as well as at my College. I received a 4.0 in my courses. Also, in high school, I was always a level above in all English and composition classes.
I like to challenge people to think outside of the box. Although I know it is important to know how to take tests and write papers appropriately, I also know that showing skills that go above and beyond, is what makes a student stand out. I have worked mainly with children, but enjoy teaching all ages. I tend to take a systematic approach and keep my lessons structured. I really do place something of a premium on being able to connect with all of my students on an academic and personal level. I believe that this helps them as they know that their teacher and tutor cares about them and their future and, as such, this causes them to grow and excel. I can attest to such things happening with many of my students and for that I am incredibly thankful.
I have done a lot of teaching and tutoring, both with adults and young people. Most of my experience, though, comes from working with high school and junior high school students. I spent the majority of that time as a tutor/ mentor and would work with the students one on one or in small groups, both in the library or in the classroom.
