My comments on tutoring Japanese : I am a native speaker of Japanese and I have been working as a Japanese language coach for almost a year now. I am passionate about teaching and I love meeting new people!

I always bring smiles to my class, and encourage students to speak and try to increase their speech time. One of the things I always do for my students is to praise their effort with my words or hand gesture to keep them motivate. I create a positive environment where students won’t hesitate to participate in a class. Listening to students patiently is one of the effort I put in when I teach, too. The most of all, creating a fun and an active environment with lots of smile is something I put my effort in the most on a daily basis for students’ motivation.

Flexible. I am currently using Genki textbooks for beginners and Tobira textbooks for intermediate level. I use zoom or skype to meet online. I also use the google drive and the google document for sharing information and files with students.
I have experience teaching Japanese to non-native speakers from a variety of backgrounds including ages, native languages, as well as proficiency levels. I have tutored people aged from 5 to 60 years old. I enjoyed working with all of my students. I really enjoy sharing my language and culture with other people and I am so happy when I meet people who are interested in my culture and language. I emphasize understanding the principle as opposed to just “getting the answer”. Sometimes a student will get frustrated with me because of that, but I’m committed to teaching how to fish and not just handing out fish. For example, with a mathematical problem, I may throw out additional problems revolving around the same principle at hand to make sure the student really understands as opposed to just getting past one question. Similarly, in a linguistic setting, after the student feels he or she understands the given word or grammatical structure, I will ask the student to construct additional sentences to make sure they really get it.
